I buy fennel all the time and I can never find any seeds in them. Why is this?

Soon as I bring some home from the store they get broken down. Stalks go in the freezer with the rest of the vegetable scraps for stock, fronds get wrapped in a wet paper towel and go in their own little container, and the bulb goes in a sandwich bag for use in pasta. Never eaten that part of the plant fresh.

Love it, but it seems a little expensive in this area. Okay, its only $3, but I wish it were cheaper.

Whole fennel is $1.50 lately at my favorite place to buy produce in the area. Last night I made Fennel a la Grecque as it is the only fennel recipe in The Art of French Cooking. I like using the whole plant, especially the stalks for grilling fish.

Hit me up with your favorite recipes.

Fennel prices are crashing. If this pattern continues they'll be giving the stuff away in six years.

The seeds are in the fruit/bud.

Fennel is not crap. Finocchiona is probably my favourite salami. Absolutely not ever crap.

Borderline crap. Many sausage makers wreck their sausage with too much fennel.

I don't like licorice or aniseed but fennel is nice. Fennel and apple salad, yum.

For a long time I had a plant in the garden which didn't really ever do anything except produce a lot of fronds. I don't know what else to use the fronds for so I used to put them in pork meatballs.

Fennel is ok, but I found the choises in the EA poll too extreme to vote either way. We don't live in a black and white world.

i can be black and white about rosemary. rosemary is butt. the bad kinda butt. it’s just like someone snapped half a toothpick and got it all over your chicken and stuck in your teeth and leads to high blood pressure and heart issues and there dill is to be fresh tasting and awesome, not for chicken but you know... rosemary i despise, dill is always welcome. c’est la vie

I'm positively inclined towards all the popular herbs, apart from some strong reservations about mint.

In a crossover with the regional slang thread, in Italy referring to a man as “fennel” is like the English use of “gay” as a pejorative. I.e. it means “fag”

Disclaimer: I am not advocating the use of the word “gay” as a pejorative or the word “fag” at all.

Sliced fennel bulb is great on pizza! My work does a Italian sausage and fennel pizza.
