A lot of people are really put off by his rants pre-interview, but often I find them more interesting than the interview itself. They have a certain trainwreck charm. All around, WTF is extremely NC.

Unfortunately once they've been up for a certain length of time, older episodes drop off the archive and the only way you can get them is by paying for them, but I'd strongly, strongly recommend new folks to the podcast go back and get their hands on the 2-part Louis CK and Judd Apatow interviews, and the interview with Stewart Lee. Oh, and the one with Gallagher.

I like this show. Maron can be an excellent interviewer in spite of himself. Not into his fat-phobia at all.

NOT CRAP. :WF: 5

The interviews are surprisingly good. I tend to skip the non-interview parts but I like the discussion of comedy. I like the way Maron engages most of his interviewees, even if sometimes he panders just a little bit (which says more about some of his guests really). It's amusing how he has to spend the opening ten or twenty minutes of most interviews apologising for his behaviour in the 80s and 90s, I gather his drinking days were pretty wild.

I didn't expect to like his comedy but it's pretty funny.

NC.

Don't know any comedians personally, but hearing them talk endlessly about themselves and attempt to make the talk ironic or off-the-cuff is remarkable.

Maron's a very good interviewer.

To some extent, this podcast changed my life. Often times it's like therapy for me.

I've been a fan of Maron's since I was a kid. Nobody conducts a better interview. In fact, a lot of times the best interviews have been with people I normally couldn't give a two shits about. And his guest spot on The Best Show last week? That was the most enjoyable 3 hours of radio/comedy I have ever heard.

I cannot recommend this enough to folks not in the know. Get in there.

I always liked him when Air America did Morning Sedition. I'll have to check this out.

The Ira Glass, Louis CK, Gallagher, Dane Cook, Carlos Mencilla, and Tom Scharpling episodes were all gold. He was indeed great on the Best Show on WFMU last week. I've now gotten to the point where I'll listen even if I don't know the guest, and way more often than not, it's fascinating.

The Louis CK episode was great. If you're used to hearing Louis on Opie and Anthony (a pair of grade A cunts) it's weird to hear him get emotional over the birth of his daughter.

Yeah, just listened to this one today. I was in a way-fucked-up relationship with a woman with borderline personality disorder (back when I started posting here in '04) and it was interesting to hear Foley talk about his experience with that.

I was unfamiliar with Marc Maron until his interview with Tom Scharpling (which was awesome). I've dug around through his archives and have had a blast with a lot of the back-episodes, especially the ones with Gallagher, Patton Oswalt, and Paul F Tompkins.

My favorite so far is the interview with Paul Scheer, who revealed his really fucked up past with his step-dads and his penchant for getting into fights as a kid.

Maron has a knack for opening people up and I can't wait to hear more.

Wow, that interview with Conan was really illuminating. I had no idea he was such an intelligent guy.

Maron really has a way of getting his guests to open up, it's fascinating.

Been working my way through the archive and, if you'll excuse the academic terms, it strikes me that this is one of the most intelligent and searching spaces of male/masculine discourse and conversation we have. Hours of engaging conversation about anger, rage, depression, alcoholism and drug use, childhood abuse, marriage, divorce, mortality, friendship, insecurity, therapy. And it's a comedy podcast! Great case in point: the episode with Greg Fitzsimmons, whom I hadn't heard of. While Joe Rogan is a bore, Maron's opening monologue on irony for that episode is one of the best commentaries on the culture of irony I've heard.

Yes. Don't skip the intros/rants, people. They are fantastic.

I listened to the Rob Delaney episode for the 3rd time yesterday. Brutally funny and frank discussion regarding addiction, depression and rebuilding your life.

I don't know, I can't dig him and find him kind of irritating. I can't shake the image I have of him as 80's hack on some shitty "comedy" talk/game show, maybe it was "Make Me Laugh"?

Anyway, he's seemed to reinvent himself as this angry, intellectual, hip old man and I find that shtick tiresome. Just the title of his show irks me, WTF? You silly shit, stop trying to sound "with it". Ooh, you're mad theres a Whole Foods on Houston, pops? You remember when it was full of junkies? Sorry, but fuck you, Marc.

I disagreed with yr post, but could basically empathise with the criticism right up to:
