I thought I'd seen it all, but now I have seen Robert Fripp wearing a leather jacket. Holy shit.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Wallace Shawn needs to play late Robert Fripp in Crimso bio-pic.

All of a sudden I find myself really enjoying this track, on the way to reassess Lizard:

Absolutely not crap. Although they've put out some pretty bad stuff throughout the years, they've also released three genre classics of three respective decades in In the Court of the Crimson King, Red and Discipline. To me, these three records plus a couple solid live cuts make up for their relative inconsistencies across the board. The Wetton-era lineup is probably my favorite of theirs, despite my reservations about him as a vocalist. Robert Fripp is a masterful guitarist and musician in general, even if he does come off as a bit of an ass in interviews.

The Road to Red is expensive, but it's also chock full of Wetton/Bruford Crimson live. Take the plunge.

"Over 21 CDs, 1 DVD, 2 blu-ray discs, copious sleeve notes and replica memorabilia." Prices start at about $146.61. Damn, talk about comprehensive.

It's just that, as much as I love that era of Crimson, I can't fathom actually going through 21 CDs of stuff from one release alone. I'm not big on live albums, or double albums, for that matter. Is it really possible that there is that much of interest from a phase of the band that at the time was considered best condensed into a five track LP?

The 90's version of their "going through the vaults" ethic is much closer to the limits of my attention span.

It's mostly live shows with Larks Tounges and Starless and Bible Black songs. It's worth it, just to hear the different improvs and off the cuff stuff. The road work that lead to RED shows why RED sounded like RED. Lots of great versions of the previous two lps. Lots of crunchy Hiwatt powered P-Bass. Many things being struck hard and often. My favorite release from last year.

KC slayed last night in Milwaukee, faces were melted. They even played Breathless from the Fripp Exposure lp. Go see them, and I think they are going to tour the UK, too.

Ha. In high school I took a "modern poetry" class in which each student had to play and discuss poetry put to music. The above is the track I presented.
