Film: Looper

As far as I'm aware, people that made Brick and Primer are involved in this film - it looks potentially goofy but could be interesting.

i wanna say that it's not an all together original idea but i can't think of where it's been done before...or maybe it's just a culmination of already done ideas slammed together?

Has anyone seen this yet? It's getting great reviews. I'm torn between seeing this and The Master tonight.

Looper is a great Vitreous Humor song.

Just saw it. Pretty badass movie, but nothing too amazing. If nothing else it's great to see an R-rated high concept sci-fi action movie with decent actors, writing etc. that wasn't made purely as a commercial money grab.

Saw it tonight. I liked it fine, but if someone can tell me about a better performance from a child actor in the last 25 years or so, I would certainly like to watch it. Pierce Gagnon was five years old when he filmed this movie. I don't know if they caught lightning in a bottle or if he's going to have an actual career, but holy shit did he pull it off.

Where's the poll?

  • As a time travel film it's just a hair less stupid than Timecop. Happily it drops the 'touch past self and go splurge', but otherwise don't think. It's nonsense.
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt's makeup is pointless and seriously distracting.
  • When it decides to go nuts it does so with style. When something falls down the stairs...
  • Emily Blunt is good, as usual.
  • Bonus points for using When I get to the border.

Not as clever as I expected, but not crap. Interesting mixture of other films.

I really liked this movie. I agree that Gordon-Levitt's makeup was extremely distracting as well. I don't think it served any function ie I don't think it made him look very much like Bruce Willis, as I assume it was intended for.

I saw this last night too. It was decent, but a bit silly in places.

I just figured that's what he looks like now.

Looks decent based on the trailer. I'll check out a matinee of it soon.

Let The Right One In or Near Dark. Maybe the kid who played Em in The Possesion.

Decent science fiction film that turned out to be a really solid drama. Solid NC.

Movie's been growing on me since I saw it Friday. Yeah, that little kid's performance is amazing, and the dynamic between Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon Levitt was done really nicely and somewhat unexpected fashion. I love how the movie didn't make a big deal out of time travel but more or less dealt with it seriously and in somewhat logical fashion.

I'm pretty thrilled that Hollywood let someone sneak this movie into the marketplace.

Have you even seen Looper? On paper, sure, time travel! Lazy criticism. This movie is nothing like 12 Monkeys.

I had a Boss RC-2 looper, an Aria thingy and a Loopmaster dual effects loop pedal.

This is a commentary track Rian Johnson has recorded, meant to be listened to in-theater on your mp3 device. Different from the DVD commentary to come.
