Then they should probably start by actually playing heavy metal.

I like it.

Far more interesting than most of the music that is considered "hip" by hipsters nowadays. I know the "Queen" comparison is overused, but all modern music appears to be derivative of something, and a band that aspires to the heights of Queen with admirable execution is not dismissed easily in my book.

NOT CRAP!

According to Wikipedia, they support Ipswich Town FC. That's good enough to garner a NOT CRAP from me.

Wow. There are so many generalizations and errors in this statement I don't even know where to begin.

I used to think that first hit they had (I think it was called), "I believe in a thing called love" was an all right song. Eventually I realized how retarded it was.

For something as untrivial as a Crap/Not Crap vote on The Darkness, what sources do you suggest I use in conducting my research before casting my ballot?

I do find them funny, but they're essentially an idea dreamt up by an advertising man, which was what mr singer man was in his previous life.

Funny crap.

Well, for something as "untrivial" as the Darkness may I suggest this nuanced and completely accurate source. Sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities.

this guy is voluntarily bulimic so he can look like a mincing ponce in those fruity leotards he favours.
what a good example for his undoubtedly pre-pubescent audience!

i believe he is also conveyed to the stage twixt a chariot of tits.
this is so apt in itself that i may even grant him a waffle.

CRAP CRAP CRAP.

i just saw them on vh-1. oh, the memories. i give them credit for doing something a fery few bands could do: recording a song to which my body responded physically. when i first saw their video on mtv2 (it was the one with white gibson flying out from the lake) my stomach ached. from all of bad trends of the past, why and how anyone would want to resurect pop metal? i thought they are the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone, everywhere. i don't think i've ever hated any band as much as i hated the darkness back then.
but now i realize they enjoed all the big dumb cock rock cliches so they decided to form a big dumb cock rock band. fair deal. this is crap, but it's not any different from all current indie uk bands.
however, their music simply sucked. not in a "cock rock simply sucks" way, it just lacks any kind of talent. riffs suck, vocals line are not catchy at all, guitar solo's totally blow (even for a cock rock! that's something!). queen was 100 times better. shit, even guns n' roses were better than those guys.
CRAP, no waffles
but i no longer hate them.

They are better than most of the bands that they're aping.

That's not really saying much, but give credit where credit is due.

Crap, WF 4 for fighting a giant space squid with lasers in that video, I'm okay with that.

Re: Band: The Darkness

Postby ironyengine on Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:23 pm

A coworker brought this band back to mind today, and I was moved to re-download their album Permission to Land and listen to it. I remember really liking the song "Bareback" which apparently wasn't even on the album, but in re-listening I also discovered how much "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" reminds me of "Sister Havana."

I would like to hear a bastard-pop-mash-up-mix of these two songs, somehow or other. Someone please make this happen.
I never thought I'd recover from the trouble that Youtube put me through...
