TV Show: Nathan for You

I'm mildly obsessed with this show as of late. I find it to be hilarious. Good awkward humor. What say the rest of you?

NC. He seems to find the most awkward, most painful moment in every situation.

Yeah, and I think the reason that he is effective at it is because he comes off as very non-threatening and unobtrusive.

Someone tried to make a parallel between this show and both the Ali G and Tom Green shows, but I think his personality mostly, but also the premise (helping a struggling business owner) partially, is what sets its apart from those shows, makes it unique, and makes it effective. I mean, I liked the Ali G Show, but Nathan's "normality" makes people willing to go farther along with the gag than Cohen was generally able to.

I don't totally love it nor need to see every episode, but he has such a hilarious deadpan and disingenuous innocence, it's charming

This show is great.

The advertisement in a pet cemetery had me busted up. His sidekick "Solomon" rules hard too.

Not Crap.

I have a really hard time with shows where the host(s) fuck with real people (though who knows to what degree anything is real/staged on these shows), it just makes me really uncomfortable to watch. That said, Nathan Fielder is hilarious and this show totally succeeds when the satire is on point. The first season had more winners than this one (the escape trick with the elaborate pants grabbing claw, the gas rebate). There's been some funny stuff this season but I don't really know what the point of the toy store one was (kids are bad consumers?) and the dumb starbucks one was a good stunt but didn't go in the direction I was expecting (tying it to lazy parody/satire like on twitter or right wing radio) and was a bit disappointing. I'll have to think about it but I don't think there has been an episode that really nailed it this season, though I've laughed plenty. Definitely not crap, but uneven.

The episode with the crazy real estate agent, morbidly obese "ghost whisperer", Christian exorciser dude--I feel like he was probably able to find all three within a mile radius. Southern California is perfect for this show.

I read it more as satirizing marketing/advertising to kids who obviously can't make critical judgments for themselves. And brilliantly executed.

"You don't want to be a baby, DO YOU?" That little girl finally reaching for the ball almost made me fall off the sofa from laughing so hard.

"kids are dumb" just seems like kind of a self-evident premise. I'm not offended by it or anything, I just don't think it's as incisive. I liked in the claw one when he really harped on the parents who would basically let their kids do anything (potentially have a man expose himself in front of them) to be on TV. He did it in his passive, dry way but I was just dying.

This show has been great so far. I haven't watched "Dumb Starbucks" yet, but I've seen all of the others and I'm glad he's gotten renewed for a third season. Great deadpan humor that doesn't always quite land, and with the recurring theme of his self-doubt/thinking back on all of the times when people have said they don't want to hang out with him, I'm wondering if there's a bigger surprise bubbling under the surface if the series makes it far enough. It definitely FEELS bigger to me than just a "oh hey here's a funny reality-esque show!"

Just a lunatic series of escalations, sharp laughs, total brilliance.

I've only sean Season 1, but definitely NC.

The episode featuring the super complex contraption for Nathan to expose himself to children is an all-time great.

Maybe the smartest show CC's ever had. Nathan is admirably fearless, and god damn funny. The heir to Kaufman's throne.

This season's first episode had such a disarmingly sweet ending. So good.

I must admit though sometimes I find it painful to finish an episode. The awkward in this show is palpable.
