of course there's the VU album, but even if you skip over that there's The Marble Index, one of my favorite albums...The End is great...Desertshore is very good as well...Nico's voice alone is most definitely not crap...

Not crap. I don't believe any other singer could have improved on 'It Was A Pleasure Then'.

Her "Chelsea Girl" is one of my favorite LPs.

Bell & Sebastian borrowed a lot from Nico.

Crap. What I imagine Camilla Parker Bowles would sound like if she sang.

Though she does share a name with me, so she might not be total crap.

NOT CRAP at all.

The Marble Index, Desertshore, and The End are three of my favorite records full stop, and Chelsea Girl is very good as well. Hell, I like all of her albums.

I think she had a great, great voice, and often penned beautiful lyrics. No joke.

Not Crap at all. Listening to Chelsea Girl right now for the first time in a long time and wondering why I don't throw it in more often.

I think Chelsea Girl sucks apart from "These Days." The music on Desertshore is amazing though. Shame about the singing. All in all, I'll vote Not Crap.

I think Chelsea Girl is as good as anything Nick Drake did--and quite similar in many ways.

The Marble Index and Desertshore are about as good as anything anyone ever did.

Nico is not crap.

Last night, a young gentleman who was trying to make me love him said, when asked about his views on the Velvet Underground:

"Nico sounds like a fucking muppet."

I respectfully disagreed.

Marble Index is a phenomenal record.

NOT CRAP.

Nico's life story is the very definition of sadness. There was a very thorough Nico documentary on the BBC, a couple of years back, and John Cale played an incredible rendition of 'Frozen Warnings' on the piano at the end.

Iggy also credits her with being a huge artistic inspiration, and has spoken of her with what seems like serious respect. (I read I Need More and Please Kill Me too: "Zhimmy, you must be totally poisoned...") The documentary Nico Icon was well done, and very depressing. Wtf, she gave her teenage son his first shot of heroin?? A haunting voice and powerful mystique, but most of her solo stuff tends to make me want to kill myself. I do like "These Days" and "I'll Keep It With Mine" at times, though.
