Bumpity-bump. Just wanted to counter the "Brendan Canty sucks" vibes I get from this thread at times, he's one of my favorite drummers, let's not forget the fact that Fugazi is one of the few indie rock bands that has succesfully injected black music (reggae and funk) groove into their music without it coming across as hokey, dated and irredeemably shitty (see:music of the early 90s) and Canty is a big part of that. Plus, dude is solid, not only does he come up with these huge, canyon-size grooves, he's got a steady left foot and speedy fills.

Also wanted to add, my favorite Fugazi is Red Medicine onwards, I love the early, punkier 'gazi (In On the Kill Taker was a huge disappointment for jme though, much prefer Steady Diet) but it's the more complex, dynamic, nuanced and intricately produced stuff from '95 onwards that really gets me, peaking with The Argument.

Brendan also wrote many of the guitar lines that are the basis of Fugazi songs. He's a wonderful pianist and saxophonist too.

Never heard someone call Kill Taker a 'huge disappointment' before. Crazy.

To each their own, of course.

Yeah man, I hate to break type, but those fools would be heading towards the garbage can in my high school.

Brendan Canty is a remarkable musician, great drummer and a hell of an awesome guy.

No shit! I couldn't imagine Fugazi without him and he seems nice. Never met him in person nor can I recall specific interviews.

IIRC it was Brendan coming up short against Mac. But, you know. It's Mac.

Sometimes when threads get bumped, I get excited and hoping for a show announcement of some kind.

For a band that's been strictly about making a ton of money since before their inception, they could certainly cash in on this AND sell a ton of merch.

Hey, this seems like a decent place to mention it.
I had Brendan Canty on Protonic Reversal, we talked about a lot of stuff. If hearing from a very awesome member of fugazi that you don't see tons of interviews from interests you, you can hear that here:
Episdoe 81 - Brendan Canty - (Fugazi, Deathfix, Burn to Shine)
stream/download

It was pretty funny having him on the day before those unfunny fugazi reunion posts.

I have listened to this unfortunately-titled Messthetics track a few times, and consider it beneath every Fugazi instrumental. Including "Joe #1" and "Number 5."

I don't mean to compare this band to Fugazi, either. I understand the guitarist is of a different school, but this track does not succeed on a prog level or on a punk rock level. Every time he stops licking and soloing and repeats the riff, it's like the energy of the song reverts to 0. They need another melodic player - guitarist or otherwise - or a singer.

Oh, cmon. "Hate" the guitar? This is pretty cool:

I feel like THIS is how they start a new band...add Ian, Guy and second drummer and go for it...instead of just doing a reunion.
