With the good news that Rob is in better shape and having a go at releasing and touring again, I ask you good folk:

Rob Crow, crap? Not crap?

I like him but it's been diminishing returns for me sadly. I really liked Heavy Vegetable, Thingy were pretty good (although I think ultimately P.E.E. beat both those bands at their own game), Pinback were kind of okey at the start but seemed to nosedive rapidly. Haven't checked out anything he's done for at least 10 years, probably longer. I'll say not crap but the waffle factor is at least 6 or 7...
Don't shun it. Fun it.

You should give a go of Other Men, his HV reunion band, think it might be the best thing he's done since Thingy.

I like him but yeah, he's done so much stuff that inevitably some of it is half-baked. Not too surprising that his "I'm quitting music" thing lasted what, not even a year. I didn't realize he was having health problems, I just recall him saying it was taking a toll on his family life.

Only really listened to the second Heavy Vegetable album and Summer In Abaddon, which was given to me by the keyboardist on that tour, as well as assorted tracks from Thingy, etc. I think the H.V. album is on a different tier from the other stuff...almost a masterpiece. I liked the Other Men track, but without Elea it can never be quite the same.

I agree that his output has a sort of Robert Pollard ratio of filler to it, but I remain a fan.

Saw the new band in Denver the other night, and they were REALLY well-rehearsed. Just super, super tight. Drummer was a real kick in the pants, too.

New record sounds like... well, Rob Crow. There are parts that sound like Pinback, but the mostly it leans more towards the Heavy Vegetable sound.

I can't find it on any of the offical pages so far, but some Facebook/Twitter stalking suggests it is a fellow by the name of Greg Sudor.

Well, fair play to Joyful Noise for putting this together. Their artist in residence for 2018 is Rob Crow, who will release *9* LPs for the label over the course of the year, plus a 7" and a DVD and assorted bits and bobs, all to be collected in a big box set in November. It will include albums from Optiganally tours, Thingy, Anal Trump and loads more.

Thingy have long been one of my favourite bands, and I've been waiting for their 3rd LP for nearly 20 years now, wow. Very excited by this!

I enjoy his characteristic yet singular record Lactose Adept. Should be in every radio DJ's crate.

The album is already out. I haven't heard it, but it's supposedly really, really good.
