Awesome name, great psych band out of Melbourne. Putting 2 LP's out each year is standard practice for them.

Couldn't make it to their Brisbane show but they're touring Australia right now.

I dunno.. Maybe some people just can't get enough of Thee Oh Sees but I get nothing out of this. And no, the name is atrocious.

Been stuck in my head for a week after a friend of mine played it for me as we drove to a Publix in Macon, GA.

Terrible name* but I like what I've heard so far. Dunno how original they are because I am not hip, but they sound good.

I've never sat down with one of their records, but saw them once about five years ago and then again last month.

I guess they got big into maximalism during that timeframe. It was a good gig, but almost every song would have been better if 1 - 3 fewer band members were involved.

Also, the main singer kept doing the Thurston Moore thing where his vocal and guitar melodies were perfectly congruent.

This is my favorite thing I've heard of theirs. Really impressive stab at 'classic' prog at least to my ears.

This band is easy to dismiss for surface reasons like their dumb name etc. They seem to have a pretty huge fan base of young people in a time where young people don't care (rightfully so) about rock music. They don't seem at all concerned about style or genre constraints, they self-release all their own shit, and they are insanely prolific do-ers. Do-ers, doing.

A pretty large amount of their music is not at all for me but I give them an NC and a Salut.

Confused as to why I thought their name was 'awesome' 2 years ago. Anyway they put out 5 albums this year and although I think they're still a quality band, they become a bit tedious to listen to in any long stretch. I find myself enjoying the first 15-20 minutes of their albums, but start to lose interest as I notice how samey everything is.

Do they always play with these instruments? Check the frets.

Yeah, it’s cool that they can do quarter steps on those guitars, but after sampling through a few of their tunes the other day I can’t say I’m really into them at all. Maybe there’s something else there I’m missing, just don’t think I’ll stick around long enough to see.
The band name is distracting, but fuck it. My band has a dumb name. My friends’ bands all have dumb names. Just not as dumb as theirs!

They've been on my list of Things To Check Out all year, but I've put it off because I don't dig on 2010s "Psych" Garage stuff, and I would hate having to refer to this band in a sentence. That KEXP video is the first I'm hearing of them.

I didn't realize microtonal guitars were part of the deal—none of the friends I've heard gushing about them have mentioned it, and they're the kind of people who would. Still doesn't do it for me. If I want microtonal rock music I think I'm good with Horse Lords, who do not make 2010s Psych Garage.

I like that song AF posted, can't say I've heard another one of theirs that sounds like it. Maybe they use those weird guitars all the time but they get lost under all the space delay and whatnot? If there's a whole album of that stuff I'd like to hear it.

edit: after some light googling it sounds like Flying Microtonal Banana might be that record.

Sounds fine but not my deal!

Doesn't really sound like they're doing anything that merits those wack-ass fretboards!

yeah, they're a massive nerd ensemble, some insane 11 person line-up with two drummers and microtonal guitars and like three releases a year.

I've got friends who are crazy about them, but I've never heard anything that has grabbed me. They're like Rush nerds playing reverb'd psych-pop or something. I usually sink them in with bands like Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall in "hip substance-less popular shit that people eat up but hey at least someone's doing the job."

Not sure if it’s a fair comparison, but they kind of remind me of a vanilla Secret Chiefs 3. Could be only superficial connections I’m making here.

Seems like an Ok psycho fuzz jam drones band. I'm usually fine with that. I like Magma and Can and shit like that. I wouldn't buy all their records but if they were on stage opening for a better band I wouldn't get mad about it. I think the weirdo guitar would be equal parts annoying and fun to goof off with and kinda want one. It's fine. This band is just fine.
