I finally managed to force myself to listen to the Adam Curtis interview, which I enjoyed immensely.

Based on the reactions here, I decided to try to get through the Gorka stuff, because I find Sebastian Gorka to be the most exemplary example of the kind of charlatan that the Trump admin has embraced as "advisors."

And los hermanos Chapos make an excellent point, in that by running headlong away from the '60s-'70s Left rhetoric about colonial adventurism in the Middle East (for all the reasons that they've done this), liberals are left with no explanation for terrorism other than A Few Bad Apples. The Few Bad Apples model is such a great example of reductionist rationalizations for systemic pathologies, it's the inverse of "the plural of anecdote is not data."

If there just wasn't that one guy whose mic is so tinny who seems to only pipe up to say things in the most idiotic way possible, as if he's only looking up from his game of Call of Duty to interject some "counterpoint from an on-the-spectrum Lefty Bro" commentary. Is that Felix? Man, that dude. At least get a better mic.

I think that the Sebastian Gorkas of the world need a bunch of dirtbag lefties heckling them from the cheap seats, as do the comfortable professional neoliberal commentariat.

I've been listening to this recently at work while doing mindless tasks and really enjoying it. I haven't gone too far back in the archives, but listened to the first few episodes to catch any kind of early in-jokes and also to hear FM connor's appearance. I'm glad they figured out how to turn down the Cincinnati guy's mic (Matt?) because those first few episodes he's just hollering over everyone else.

Also, is Jacobin actually pronounced "Jack-o-bin", or is that just the way the guy who can't pronounce anything correctly says it?

That is the correct pronunciation. It seems weird but you get used to it.

I swear I rewound Virgil's bum's rant 6 minutes into the beginning of the new episode a few times.

Don't give up him yet. He provides some of the best commentary out of all of them.

No matter how you have been saying Jacobin, it will never be as bad as Felix pronouncing caveat as "caveet".

Matt "Tinny Mic" Christman has what I find to be the most sensible takes, so I'm surprised to read FM DFTR's impressions of him. Felix is generally eating, breathing very heavily or comparing Saudi Arabia to MMA.

Didn't he also pronounce Geocities as Gee-ah-si-tees?

Yeah, Matt strikes me as probably the smartest of the three, or at least the most acid-tongued. He can back up his arguments with an encyclopedic recall of historic precedents and do it without stammering as much as Will* or making cum jokes as much as Felix. Based on the whole group, I should really go back and listen to Frost / Christman, as those two are probably the most engaging members of the show.

*And speaking of stammering, holy shit, Virgil, sometimes. I can't remember which episode I was listening to but I was out on the bike trail and Virgil did a full two seconds of "um um um" for the third or fourth (but not the last) time and I blurted out, "Jesus, get it together, Virgil!"

I know they've been out in Chicago but I'm jonesing for a new episode pretty hard. Tried to listen to Street Fight the other day. Couldn't really get into it.

I'm finally warming up to these guys.

Someone needs to do some basic sound treatment of the room where Christman broadcasts from. It's unbelievable how bad his mic sounds, but he's at least speaking the truth, in his way.

The above rant was/is right on the fucking nose.

I love how he sounds.
He sounds like bizarro Tom Scharpling speaking from a cavern, gives him even more gravitas in a crazy way.

The kids are alright.
