It's more the sponsorship what queers it for me.

Slick promo, Ableton.

C'mon, bttls.

Yeah, how dare they get money for what they do...

Well they do, they sell albums and play concerts for money. Beautiful. Great band and I'm on record as a fan.

Spokesperson/promo crap is gross though, especially this kind which masquerades as some kind of charity, shining a light on a recording studio or whatever.

Check out our article on Battles, including an interview with guitarist, keyboard and Push player Ian Williams

i didn't even realize it was a promo for ableton.

i'm gonna guess that while being in battles is more lucrative than, i dunno, being me...i sort of doubt they're raking in the bucks.

if they use the stuff and like it, what's wrong with doing a promo for it?

I remember getting stoned and enjoying them for Mirrored. I also remember owning that record and being bummed I had to sell it, but nowadays I don't really give a shit.

Nothing against their approach or whatever instruments (computers included) they use to make their records, but it's just not as interesting as it used to be to me.

Still a good band. Still not something I want to listen to ever though, really. I'm happy they're doing their thing regardless.

I think Thomas Brinkmann's 'What You Hear is What You Hear is what I would like Battles to be if they truly respect the loop.

Not a big fan but I enjoyed that video. I thought it was funny they equated going to a city in Rhode Island to record with being in a cabin out in the sticks.

The first two EP's are still pretty good.

Think they might have been big Heldon fans?

I enjoy the EPs the most. It left a great deal of space. I was disappointed that they ended up going the carnival music route. Mirrored has some great moments( cartoon vocals notwithstanding).
I cant believe that Mirrored record is so god damn retarded expensive to get a hold of.
I'm gonna plop down some cash for that new one and hope for the best.

Really!? I have a vinyl copy... it's worth money?

Edit: just checked on Discogs... fucking hell. I'll be selling mine as soon as I get back to London.

Playing new tracks live, I think this is only up for today (so like a half hour left)

Sounds great!

This is hitting me in all the right places.

I already know that I won't be seeing Bttls because that's the night of our record release show that has been planned for months. I'm crushed.

i have this live version of "atlas" on my ipod, which i only use while at the gym.

this track in particular i pretty much only listen to while doing cardio. it sits in cardio listening company with those two hot snakes songs ("our work..." & "salton") and that knyfe hyts song (smoke...milk).

i'm glad that ty guy left and they replaced his munchkin vocals with this weird chorus.

also, that "sweetie and shag" song is killer. i s'pose i should put that on the ipod too.

not crap. :WF: 5 for generally being boring as fuck.

Every couple years I loop back (GET IT?) to this band, thinking I've missed something.

Nope. This band is abysmal.

I'm afraid so. I couldn't help it and had a listen. Not the world's biggest Battles fan but I loved some of their songs. New album is blowing my mind however, it's less cutesy bullshit and more live IDM played in real time by humans with John ("Bonham") Stanier drumming. Think I'm gonna have to buy this.

New one is great. Love the complete lack of vocals. I still think the EPs are my favorite.

I'm gonna compel myself to wait to listen until I physically have it. It's nice to hear the favorable reviews. The "complete lack of vocals" leaves me faithful.
