I appreciate the lack of shame in their embrace of technology. I am suspicious of the automatic emotional association that musical credibility must come at the expense of engaging with accessible and irreversible technological advances.

It's more the sponsorship what queers it for me.

Well they do, they sell albums and play concerts for money. Beautiful. Great band and I'm on record as a fan.

Spokesperson/promo crap is gross though, especially this kind which masquerades as some kind of charity, shining a light on a recording studio or whatever.

i'm gonna guess that while being in battles is more lucrative than, i dunno, being me...i sort of doubt they're raking in the bucks.

I remember getting stoned and enjoying them for Mirrored. I also remember owning that record and being bummed I had to sell it, but nowadays I don't really give a shit.

Nothing against their approach or whatever instruments (computers included) they use to make their records, but it's just not as interesting as it used to be to me.

Still a good band. Still not something I want to listen to ever though, really. I'm happy they're doing their thing regardless.

I think Thomas Brinkmann's 'What You Hear is What You Hear is what I would like Battles to be if they truly respect the loop.

I enjoy the EPs the most. It left a great deal of space. I was disappointed that they ended up going the carnival music route. Mirrored has some great moments( cartoon vocals notwithstanding).
I cant believe that Mirrored record is so god damn retarded expensive to get a hold of.
I'm gonna plop down some cash for that new one and hope for the best.

i have this live version of "atlas" on my ipod, which i only use while at the gym.

this track in particular i pretty much only listen to while doing cardio. it sits in cardio listening company with those two hot snakes songs ("our work..." & "salton") and that knyfe hyts song (smoke...milk).

i'm glad that ty guy left and they replaced his munchkin vocals with this weird chorus.

also, that "sweetie and shag" song is killer. i s'pose i should put that on the ipod too.

not crap. 5 for generally being boring as fuck.

I'm afraid so. I couldn't help it and had a listen. Not the world's biggest Battles fan but I loved some of their songs. New album is blowing my mind however, it's less cutesy bullshit and more live IDM played in real time by humans with John ("Bonham") Stanier drumming. Think I'm gonna have to buy this.
