For nearly my entire life I thought Rita Coolidge wrote "We're All Alone." Such a beautiful song bested only by "Didn't I Blow Your Mind (This Time)," but that's a conversation for another thread. Anyway, imagine my surprise that this stupendous song was penned by a dude named Boz Scaggs. I didn't even fucking know who Boz Scaggs was until Steve's lively rendition of "Lido Shuffle" at Drug Church, and even after that I didn't explore further (are you fucking kidding me with "Lowdown"??? Frankie Knuckles could have and probably did drop that in a mix).
Man, Rita Coolidge takes me out of myself when I hear this song, and it took me a minute to get used to Boz's weird-ass warbling, but, goddamn, he nails it and why not, it's his own fucking song. And where Rita's version is very flowery and feminine, Toto ramps that shit up at the end on the original.
Boz Scaggs ain't crap and I will more than likely cry when he's gone.
EDIT: Christ, Rita makes a brother want to rearrange his DNA and shoop, you know what I'm talking about? Can I say that? She's beautiful. I'd shoop with Boz too, I guess. His name is Boz.
