God, I wish I'd had the opportunity to see that.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Both nights were wonderful. They reworked 24 Track Loop to start with one drummer before everyone crashed in with a single chord and then exploded out of it with both drummers playing. Even knowing it was going to happen on the second night didn't dampen the impact of that moment.
Lovely to see a load of people I don't see often as well. Props to Thurston for getting me a setlist, what a gent!

Remarkable energy and attack from Hayward, and Bullen's sagely presence was perfectly complemented by the younger draft-ins. To be fair to TM, he was a discreet and occasional contributor whom I only became aware of when he was credited at the very end, despite having spotted him in the crowd before the performance. Timeless is surely an overused adjective, but it was remarkable to hear music composed some forty years ago being performed almost note for note, without there being the faintest whiff of nostalgia or retrospect about the occasion. On the contrary, everything about the event felt utterly contemporary and chillingly pertinent.

It was also a timely reminder of how intellectual, considered music can carry great emotional weight and excitement when delivered with that sort of honest emotional intensity. No detachment, no cool, just a great demonstration of how those people interact(ed) musically.

They were mighty good on Friday night. Incredible. All around lots of crazed grey hair and wonky teeth bouncing excitedly, my own included. By the end I was beaming my biggest beam: Hayward is some kind of force. I was very happy to bump in FM hip priest, having a chat and a couple of beers before we lost each other trying to find half-decent spots to watch from. Agreed that TM was not an intrusive presence at all, half-crouched right at the edge, practically in the audience. Took home the pretty poster too.

kind of a shame that it's in the Barbican which is all seated, muddy sound (I'm allowed to say that, i worked in production there for a few years) and a bit stiff but better than nothing

I've been reading Viv Albertine's book lately (fun read) and just past the part where the Slits broke up. One of the few things that brought her comfort was going to the This Heat practice space and watching them play for hours on end, week after week. This would have been around the time or maybe a little after Deceit. Fuck..

These Camberwell Now LPs are fucking great. Never really spent much time with them. Shame on me.

I love you, Light In The Attic.

Pretty rarely in the mood for Deceit but it's gotta be in the top 5 post-punk albums ever I reckon.
