Myself, m'lady, fellow forum member Suk and a few others all got tickets for the Boston show which has Patti Smith opening according to them internets. It's probably the most I've paid for a concert in a gooood long while ($72), but it's ground level seats and it's the Horse.

Hey, what do ya know, I just found the setlist from that show on the internet:

Opera House
Spokane, Washington, March 11, 1999

Tell Me Why
Looking Forward
War Of Man
Out Of Control (on upright piano)
Albuquerque
World On A String
Pocahontas (on 12-string)
Philadelphia (on grand piano)
Guitjo Medley:
Love Is A Rose
Homegrown
Daddy Went Walkin'
{Intermission}
Distant Camera
Ambulence Blues
Unknown Legend
Old King (on guitjo)
Harvest Moon
Slowpoke
After The Goldrush (on pump organ)
Encore:
Good To See You
Heart of Gold
Encore 2:
Cortez The Killer

I didn't know On the Beach at the time, so it didn't register that he played "Ambulance Blues". But I was really, really stoked to hear "Albuquerque".

Le Noise is an amazing album, the fx are not bullshit in the least. I want a stereo that places that echo and swirl on every piece of music I listen to, I'd be a happy man.
This new Americana is a pretty solid jam as well.

I love Neil Young, but I'm kinda tired of all the jam bands covering Cortez the Killer. I remember being at a Gov't Mule show, standing on concrete in the Egyptian Room in Indy. I'll admit it, I'm kinda old. My knees and feet hurt.

So me and my buddy are watching a good show. Warren brings the opening act, Donavan Frankenreiter, out to join him on Sugaree. They play Sugaree for ten minutes, and end it. I'm relieved. Its time to go. Then, Warren goes into the opening chords of Cortez. Geez, I slap myself. I think Donavan Frankenreiter is going to slap himself too, because trading licks with Warren for 10 minutes of Sugaree has drained him of every hackneyed lick he's ever played. So they go 15 minutes on Cortez and call it a night.

Why does everybody within cat-swinging distance of Dave Matthews play Cortez the Killer whenever multiple acts get together?

Don't get me wrong, I love Warren Haynes. I've seen him several times, and hope to see him some more if he lives.

I do like Slint's cover of Cortez, though. Despite all that's said about Slint here.
And when Engine Kid were in full Slint rip-off mode, they did a great cover of The Needle.
So stop listening to jam bands and listen to more indie rock.
I mean, I guess. Unless you don't want to.

Ha! I was at that show.

As for covers, for I guy that I'm always hearing supposedly can't play guitar how come his songs are so hard for most other musicians to pull off? Neil Young's guitar playing is magic, that's why.

Listened to "Live at Massey Hall 1971" again last night. It's up there with the best live albums.

The audience is near rabid at times. So great.

No Crap, but fuck me, the new album with Crazy Horse is a piece of shit. Stop making rubbish albums Neil. I haven't like anything enough to keep since Weld. Le Noise could have been good if not for the annoying lyrics, particularly in Angry World. Yeah, Neil it's an angry world, fuck you and your shitty records.

Listen to the samples of this embarrassing shit:

This is the worst shit I've heard in a very long time.

I recommend not listening to new Neil Young albums if this phase of his career consistently disappoints you. Stick with the ones you like, there's plenty to get out of them.

I like Americana OK. I can probably name at least 5 Neil Young albums since 1994 that I listen to a lot. Two of them (Sleeps With Angels and Broken Arrow) are among my favorites of his.
My name is Mike, and I play music in Stripper Deville.

I legitimately stopped listening to his stuff from 1980 onwards, aside from a perfunctory once-through listen. It doesn't matter to me that he hasn't produced anything I love for three decades or so. For his run from the late sixties to late seventies, he's always going to be one of my all time favourites.

Incidentally, there's another album with Crazy Horse in the can - this one is all originals.

So I finally got around to hooking up the PS3 to my stereo the other day. The Archives, always sounded great, even playing just through my television. But with a proper pair of speakers, the audio quality of these discs are insane.

Plus navigating the menus with a controller is much easier.
