Unless he's going up against Hank Williams, the Buddha, or Muhammad Ali, Dylan always wins. And even Hank would probably be a push.

Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, and Trevor Berbick beat Muhammad Ali.

How can you not say Bob Dylan here rockers?

-Highway 61 Revisited
-Blonde on Blonde
-Bringin' It All Back Home
-Blood on the Tracks

-His early folky albums too...he's a real poet.

I like Leonard, but he has a certain cheese factor to him, no? At least his earlier work did for sure.

Bob Dylan in contrast was a unique genius at like 20 or 21. And he put out one brilliant album after another. Even now, he is constantly reinventing his music. There are so many different versions of so many different Bob Dylan songs over so many years...all of them by Bob Dylan!!

Bob Dylan vs. Neil Young...now that's a messed up fight, a messed up decision to have to make...but Leonard Cohen? Bob Dylan blows Leonard Cohen out of the water.

Gotta disagree. I should probably listen to more Leonard Cohen before I make the decision finally, but I've never found him anywhere near as interesting as Dylan. Don't get me wrong, Cohen's good. But he isn't that good.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

i vote cohen. a better lyricist and better musician than dylan. also the better personality. i would taken cohen's first 6 albums (with the live one sandwiched in the middle) of any 6 dylan albums.

what dylan has in his favor is that he consistently put out GOOD-to-GREAT albums for a great period of time, and he was also rather prolific. but you can't base quality on that. i find myself skipping around many of his albums. i never skip anything on cohen's albums.

oh, and the poetry and the books! book of longing? beautiful losers!? what does dylan have that rivals it - a shoddy, self-aggrandizing auto-biography?

Easy for me; the worst show I ever saw was Dylan. I liked a few of his earlier things but Lenny has aged better than Bobby.

Leonard Cohen by a mile. LC's first four albums are exponentially better than any Dylan I've ever heard. I like Blood on the Tracks a lot, though.

Dylan's way overrated.
Cohen is kinda underrated.

I'll go with the underdog, because I'm too punk for words.

And I think Dylan's a prick.
And I think Cohen is ridiculous in a good way.

Cohen can still sing, and Dylan sound worse than he already did.
Cohen didn't run around with Wilburys, and he dresses dapper.

Plus, Ween didn't mock up a fake Dylan cover for one of their albums.

I'm going to strap on that jammy pack and give it to Cohen.

Bob Dylan

Yeah Bob Dylan's a prick, and he can't sing...who cares! If I want to hear "singing" I'll listen to Galli-Curci or John McCormack.

at their best? Dylan

at their worst? Dylan

I don't buy the "better musician" line for Cohen either. There is a lot of pretty fingerpicking going on but there is a mountain of music in the folk section of a record store with music that sounds exactly like it. His playing was not expressive. He sounds like "folk" music. (this will sound flaky but) Bob Dylan sounded like Bob Dylan, even the trad song he stole the melody for "girl from the north country" doesn't sound the same really.

Dylan knew exactly what he was doing and how to do it. I like Leonard Cohen but he would still be writing poetry in Canada if it weren't for Bob Dylan.

generally, i prefer leonard cohen and the somber tone of his early records, but i think dylan is great too.

Dylan.

Nothing against Cohen, but Dylan is the fucking lord and master, a talent of such scope that he warped reality around him.

It's not really a fair fight.
