Kind of like comparing apples and oranges.
I like both bands but love neither
but if forced to choose
I say Nirvana.

probably purely for its emotion

Primus might be talented musicians, but so are Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, and whoever the drummer for the Dave Matthews band is. Their talent has not prevented them from unleashing some of the worst crap the world has ever heard.

Primus might have had some potential, but I just don't think it ever worked.

Nirvana was hardly the bees knees either, but if I am forced to choose I have to go with Nirvana.

I still listen to Nirvana albums. I didn't listen to Primus much after I turned 14 or so.

Primus was talented / inventive - but Les Claypool's schtick gets old pretty quick. How about that trainwreck Oysterhead?

Nirvana - this shouldn't even be close.

I always thought I got what Primus was going for--and I would have really liked them if they made it work--but, yeah, they didn't.

Nirvana.

War of the riff hooks. Yawn. I'm getting so fucking bored of riff/hook bands. Bands like Shellac are about as riffy as I can stand, only because the hook lasts for all of a few seconds. I would rather listen to Einstruzende piledrive the same note over and over.

Can you add an additional poll choice of "Bullet To The Face"? If so, then I vote.

I have to go with Nirvana. I don't like either band at all, but I'd rather hear Nirvana's bland guitar pop than Primus's masturbatory, actively irritating joke music any day.

I would listen to Claypool doodle around on bass for an hour, but I don't care for Primus as a band.

None of the members of Nirvana could hold my attention separately with their instruments for any period of time, but as a band they click big.

No one has said "Primus Sucks" yet.

I like both bands, but this one's going to Nirvana. Primus are good musicians, but it can get old quick. Pretty much any thunderdome would go to Nirvana, if they're compared to their contemporaries.

Hmmm.

Juvenile self-loathing and angst vs juvenile humour and slap-bass?

Poo or sick?

Kick to the balls or stick to the eye?

So hard these question!

CRAP!

I'm not much of a Nirvana fan, but pretty much anything is better than Primus. As far as I know, Nirvana never sounded like a cross between a jam band and The Presidents of the United States of America.

The last "big time" band to mean something? Nirvana.

Nirvana trumps many bands...purely based "on the emotion" as fedaykin put it.

And yet, apparently, it appears you didn't vote for them, since at this time it is Nirvana 100%, Primus 0%.

Nirvana, by a landslide.

This + the Residents + MAD magazine caliber humor= the extent of Primus' "originality".

There's some gut/passion behind Nirvana, even if some it is dreadful.

And I am not getting spooged in the face by some mustachioed bass slappist with a "funny" fake accent.
