FugaziDome: Ian vs Guy

Postby iHateTheFloridaPanhandle on Wed Mar 24, 2010 8:19 pm

Pretty simple enough poll.
Do you like Fugazi songs where Ian sings lead more or when Guy does?

Guy, you know I love you.

Ian takes it.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

The mix CD's I make of Fugazi songs contain no Guy songs except Margin Walker once and awhile.
I could do without his twitchy nonsense, to tell you the truth.

I can't stand Guy's voice. It almost ruins Fugazi for me.

Yeah I agree with this pretty much, although all his songs on In On The Kill Taker fucking rule.

Ian.

Guy always has the better lyrics, Ian's style is more suited for the sing along chorus. Both are good, but Guy takes it.

I'm surprised to hear this. I like his voice - his songs on In on the Killtaker are my favorite Fugazi songs.

Tough one.

In any "Ian Mackaye vs." poll, I will always side with Ian Mackaye. Though I do like and appreciate Guy's songs.

Edit: Guy also gets many additional points for that basketball hoop shit. Still, Ian.

Guy has a singing style I would describe as an acquired taste. Once I developed a liking for it, it became one of my favourite of all singing voices. As iconic and awesome as Ian's singing is, I side with Guy.

I have always liked Guy's voice more. To my ears, Ian sounds very taut and rigid - which is cool in its own right, but Guy's voice is more disheveled and frayed and I like that more.

Man, why is Guy not getting the upper hand here? He is easily my preferred of the Fugazis. I can't say no to a guy with his combination of dance moves, shriek voice and angular guitar.

Guy. Easily.

Guy's slower more "emotive" songs are my favourite Fugazi songs. Some of my favourite songs. They generally have really cool clean guitar parts that I can't find anywhere else.

Last Chance For A Slow Dance
Forensic Scene
Fell, Destroyed
Life and Limb
Rend it

etc

Quite the opposite.
I have met the Fugazi dudes a couple times. Ian was real cool. Had a nice conversation. Guy, it took me three seconds to figure out I would not get along with this dude very well at all. Not like, an asshole to me or anything, just that feeling that the vibes do not jive at all, you know?

Ian.

I have to be in a certain mood to truly appreciate Guy's vocals.

I think my love is based mostly on In on the Kill Taker. I honestly don't think that Ian can touch Guy. I am glad they teamed up. Perhaps Ian gave Guy the sort of stage, the sort of attention, that he deserves.

It's tied now, but Guy Picciotto is seriously the correct answer. There lies not a damn doubt in my mind, no matter what Mr. MacKaye has accomplished.
