It's incredible to me that Bill Murray has, dare I say, grown to be the actor he is today. When you see the early SNL sketches and compare them to his performance in Lost In Translation; I mean, it's like a different guy altogether!

I would compare it to Steve Martin revealing himself to be a pretty decent author.

Not Crap. At All.

Caddyshack. Rushmore. Kingpin. Etc.

Towers above his contemporaries (I don't like Dan Ackroyd). Seems to really push himself to try different stuff ( Where the Buffalo Roam, Lost in Translation ).

Can't wait to see his new movie.

OK.

Of course not crap. He's proven himself to be so much more than a comedic actor spawn of SNL ever since the non-comedy Razor's Edge back in the '80s. There's all this stuff coming out today about that camera confronting him at a press conference and saying he's a bastard. I'm sure he is hard to work with and difficult. But he's still great. Saw Life Aquatic last night. Very good. It had some big problems, but it was overall a very good if flawed film.

What? I missed it... Mr. Murray was confronted by a camera? What happened? Post a link!

You know, I really, really like Bill Murray and think he's a wonderful comedic actor.

But that movie. Goddamn, that movie. Something about it just pissed me off. It wasn't his performance (he did very well) but that movie annoyed me from start to finish.

Maybe it's because I spent a couple of years travelling for my job and living in hotels, or maybe it's because the scripted interactions between Bill and the girl were terribly contrived ("Oooh! He's putting his hand near hers on the bed! Wow! Is this subtle sexual tension or WHAT!!"), but that movie just rubbed me the wrong way. Blechhh.

Anyhoo, Bill Murray was great in so many other things. Over Thanksgiving my wife and I brought a few friends to Manhattan, and we took pictures outside the Ghostbusters firehouse building. I thought of Bill's great lines in that gem of a film while doing so, but I also had to block out that hideous, wretched movie that is "Lost In Translation".

the reason that movie got so much acclaim is a) the family name b) the pace -- very unusual nowadays c) bill murray d) hip soundtrack

the movie itself is pretty unwow.

Did you see this movie at the theater or on video?

Because theater people tend to like it. Video people tend to dislike it.

bill murray is SO NOT CRAP! one of the funniest actors i've ever seen. i'm trying to think of a film he's been in that i think is crap, and the closest i can come up with is "what about bob". that's my least favorite murray film that i can think of right now, and no i didn't forget to consider Scrooged. and then, trying to think of his funniest films, i realized he's made a TON of great movies, in which his performance is often what makes the film great. seriously, so NOT CRAP!

i think Bill Murray's great but: Caddyshack, Garfield (okay, i haven't seen it, but i think i'm safe in assuming for this one...), Speaking of Sex (i caught a little bit of this one while flipping through the channels recently, saw Bill Murray and thought it'd be worth watching...it wasn't...), Charlie's Angels (i didn't see the first one though i did have the misfortune of seeing the second...i can't imagine there being much/any difference...)
