Which of these twitchy groups of nerdy white art students is your favorite?

NOT fuck the Talking Heads. I like Devo a lot but I've spent a lot more time with Remain in Light than any Devo record. I think Devo have come off a lot better in the long term though.

There are more Talking Heads records I care about, but I still have to vote for Devo.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone would, under any circumstances, vote for Talking Heads over Devo. It's almost unimaginable to me. Pitiable, really.

I like Devo well enough, think they had great songs, and respect them for being incredibly subversive, though I really, really, really do not get why Devo fanatics have to condescend to everyone who doesn't automatically acknowledge Devo to be the greatest thing since smooth noodles.

I think they're great, but I don't really connect with them. In contrast, I connect with Talking Heads. Devo will never, ever mean 1/10th of what Talking Heads mean to me.

For me, this is not really a contest.

Talking Heads.

I like me some Talking Heads, but Devo is better than almost everybody. Almost. Everybody.

This poll is a joke!

There is no conceivable way that Talking Heads were a better band than DEVO.

C'mon now.

Maybe. But Fear Of Music is certainly better than any Devo album. And Devo made some incredible albums.

Talking Heads have two or three great records, but this is one of the easiest thunderdomes ever.

Devo by several kilometers.

Devo fans, I need your help! I have Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and I think it's great, but for some reason I never bothered to explore Devo any further. It occurs to me that this is a grave mistake and if I don't take action to right the situation there will be consequences for my folly.

Where should I go next? Should I try to grab a copy of the already mentioned Hardcore Devo? Should I just keep going forward chronologically through their catalog?

get Hardcore Devo, Duty Now for the Future, and Freedom of Choice. I guess New Traditionalists has some good songs too, but after that it gradually stops being guitar music and their batting average goes way down.

both Talking Heads and Devo made solid records I like from 77-82. although they're both conceptual bands fronted by nervous yelpy dudes they're pretty different. if I have to pick one it's DEVO, they rocked more.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on the topic.

I've only recently gotten into Devo, and I'm not so sure that they're a band I could listen to forever.

Talking Heads will probably be one of those bands I'll listen to for the rest of my life. There are few albums I love more than Fear Of Music.

Devo. I've still never paid attention through an entire Talking Heads album, regardless of how smart it is.

Devo.

Sleazy, timeless, hilarious, life-affirming, fearless. Pretty much everything I could possibly want in a band.

The clip above is so great, the performance so well-executed, that I get a little choked up by the end of it. Thrilling.
