Wipers vs. Wire.

Postby AnthonyVillalobos on Sun May 27, 2012 4:04 am

Searched, didn't see anything.

Both of these bands get an intense amount of respect around here for good reason, now choose one over the other.

My vote goes to Wire.

I love both bands, but Wire gets my vote by a huge margin.

I love the Wipers, but there's probably fewer than 10 bands in the history of ever that would stand a chance against Wire.

Man, this really is a tough one.

As great as those first few Wire records are, they've never hit me in that spot the way the first few Wipers records can.

Wipers.

If Over the Edge and Pink Flag were placed in my hands and I was told I could only listen to one, I would invariably choose Over the Edge.

Wipers. But I do love Wire.

If you count "Straight Ahead," the Wipers made twice as many great records as Wire did.

Dude, don't forget Land of the Lost!

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of 154. Mostly sounds like half-baked gothy bullshit, with the exception of a few songs.

It's interesting how The Wipers are used as a litmus test here. They've been pitted against The Stooges and Chrome, at least.

I mean, The Wipers are great, but against The Stooges and Wire? Chrome was a bit of a tighter contest though.

I'm including "Land Of The Lost," and maybe half of "154" in this equation.

Wire.

Easily.

I like almost everything they have ever done.

They have a range of creativity that the Wipers never thought about attempting.

I admit, the Wipers are not a band that shifts my world view around. I like them alot, but they seem like solid stylists with one really good trick. Not enough to stay in the ring with Wire through 5.

This.

Wipers are a good band, but no record they have ever written can even hold a candle to Chairs Missing.
