Technically, Can were crappy for longer than they weren't. Maybe this could be another Fleetwood Mac.

I honestly don't know why my polls show up twice. The Maple poll did it too. Sorry about that.

Painfully, horribly true my friend. The were flawless between 1968 and 73, then a little ropey with the odd flash of brilliance, then pretty dire. But they did put out at least six (Delay to Future Days) consecutively amazing albums and so navigate themselves out of the crap zone.

The DVD? it's out alright and that's even more of Peter Green/Stevie Nicks knifedge, some wonderful longhair freakout moments (Can Free Concert), a deeply disturbing German TV clip of them playing (shirtless - not pretty) over an early chromakey experiment, worryingly glam later concert footage and scads of pointless filler. Tread carefully.

Even at their crappiest, Can was in the 99th percentile.

It's tough, also true, to deal with most albums after Future Days.

Saw Delight being my favorite post-Damo.

Not Crap.

I read a description of the DVD, and it seems to duplicate a lot of the stuff that is on the VHS video from the 'Can Box.' I didn't see any new material that seemed interesting, and a lot that didn't (is there really footage of the Red Hot Chili Peppers inducting them in to some kind of Euro Hall of Fame? Did I really read that?).

Having said that...If you consider yourself a big fan, you really need to have this 'Free Concert 1972' at your disposal. The band is fucking howling, Damo is on fire (and stuffed into an amazing full-body jumpsuit thing), and there's a middle-aged vaudeville guy doing juggling tricks on stage while they play. So, buy the DVD for that.

Even though my first exposure to them was the Cannabalism CD, it blew my mind way back then. It's still a pretty good comp for a pretty good band. NOT CRAP

Can made a bunch of unlistenably crappy records. The names of some of them: "Can", "Saw Delight", "Landed", "Rite Time" (the reunion-with-Mooney album- so bad)...

Hearing only these records, you would have to vote CRAP. Luckily, I don't think anybody gets into Can w/out being told to avoid them.

Also, I would like to start using "who in the jesus" as an expression of incredulity, with your permission.

I listened to the 2-CD "Anthology" album all the way through a couple of times. It had it's moments, but all in all I found a lot of it boring and some quite irritating

along with the stooges, they may just be my favorite band between 1969 and, well, the early seventies i guess. i've only really listened to monster movie through future days, which seems to be their popular material on this board, and i can't say much for their stuff after that. it seems they went the way of PiL, or i suppose PiL went the way of them. i heard some solo holger czukay stuff that samples vitamin c from ege bamyasi, and quite frankly, it was rank.

not crap.[/i]

NOT CRAP
I remember being 16 and buying my copy of 1968 Delay and just being enthralled by it. Then I got Tago Mago. End of story.
