judging by recent setlists, the 70% he's talking about he wasn't playing when Keith was still with us.

anyway, I've finally been priced out of NY shows. I would have loved to see that recent tour where he was playing most of OTB, instead I had to pass. NYC Neil tickets ain't for the working class anymore.

Get the Horse to bring in some sonics and I'll consider spending the 2 bills he charges for a seat where you can see him.

NPR has the new album "le Noise" up for a free listen.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... ft=1&f=100

General impression is that Lanois production is kind of overbearing a bit harsh. Too much reverb.

Bleh.

It is like Neil just discovered the cassette 4-track, and his dope dealer is helping him make demos.

Shitty fizzy sound.

I'll have to try to listen it again.

I blubbered like a schoolgirl when I saw that in the theater. Something about him being so close to dying from that tumor, just tore me up.

yeah it really was pretty emotional. And those Prairie Wind songs made me miss the Midwest like hell. I need to move back home.

Listened to the new album in full.

Lanois. The fucker. Ruined it.

I could deal with his shit for one song in the first video but 45 mins of that swirly bs is too much.

God damn it.

This release was announced at the beginning of September. Am I the last person to notice the terrible title "pun" of "Le Noise"/Lanois? It kind of makes me hate life.

I feel kind of dumb for missing that, but I see it now.

I'm not going to blame everything that's wrong with that record on Lanois, Neil Young has a long history of Fucking Up Perfectly Good Things.

There must be something wrong with me, because I'm halfway through Le Noise and absolutely loving it. Bullshit FX and all.

Granted, Neil Young is probably the only person I can think of who could release a record like this and still have it be awesome.

Yeah, I think it works too. Its the best record he's released since Greendale.

From our friends at Shakey Pictures:

NEIL YOUNG TO RELEASE LIVE ALBUM, ENTITLED A TREASURE ON REPRISE RECORDS

RENOWNED ROCKER UNEARTHS LIVE COUNTRY ALBUM RECORDED WITH LEGENDARY BAND, THE INTERNATIONAL HARVESTERS, WHILE ON TOUR IN THE U.S. IN 1984-1985

The 12-track live album A Treasure includes songs recorded during Young’s 1984-1985 U.S. tour and contains five previously unreleased songs. Among those, “Grey Riders” will be the first track serviced to radio. A Treasure features Young’s onstage work with some of the greatest artists in the history of country music, including the late, great Ben Keith on steel and slide guitar and Rufus Thibodeaux on fiddle, along with living legends Spooner Oldham and Hargus “Pig” Robbins on piano, Tim Drummond and Joe Allen on bass, and Karl Himmel on drums, among many others. A Treasure is Young’s first release since last year’s Grammy- and Juno Award-winning album, Le Noise.

The live album captures this iconic artist during a fascinating time in his career, when he was facing criticism and lawsuits from his then current record company for exploring a more traditionally country sound. “You can call me erratic,” Young said when asked at the time about his tendency toward musical shape-shifting, “but I’ve been consistent about it, consistently erratic.” Always celebrated for his musical versatility, A Treasure, is akin to a sonic time capsule, instantly transporting the listener to the time and place when it was made. “I love this record,” Young says. “I hadn’t heard these takes in 25 years, but when we unearthed them co-producer Ben Keith said, ‘This is a treasure.’”

Just finished reading Shakey, which was very interesting but maybe not such a great idea, as I'm just starting to go into the man's catalog and I probably have all kinds of preconceptions now. Same guy (who didn't strike me as particularly douchey) did a bio of Russ Meyer, I'm considering getting that one.
I play guitar in Elma. Listen here or download the record for free here.

We had a song in Lake of Fake Vol. 1
