New Forumite, New Studio...

Postby thekickingmule on Mon May 09, 2011 10:40 am

Hello,
First of all, quick 'howdy-do' to you all as I'm new here. Work and live in Leeds, UK, I've had the fortunate pleasure of working with tarandfeathers on here (which is how I knew where to come) and I'm in charge of some studios at a music college.

Anywho, this summer, we are getting a couple of studios built up. I have had a huge say in how they will look, what equipment is going in them and who can use them. I will hopefully get some pictures up of the designs, so you can see what I have in mind. I have a couple of questions, which maybe some of you guys can help out with.

I have already decided on a pair of APS Aeon monitors, some Focal Twin 6BE's, but am after a 3rd set. This will be coming from a 32ch SSL G-Series, for not a very large room (18.5sqm). Don't mind whether they're passive or active, but if passive, I need advice on an amp as well.

Also, this may be slightly easier to tell when I've uploaded the picture (tomorrow, I'll try) but I need to decide how many tie lines to put into each room/booth. There is a largeish (21sqm) live room, a 5.8sqm drum booth and a 2.2sqm Vocal/Instrument booth. Will 12 lines in the Drum Booth be too many? Are 4 lines in the VO/Inst Booth too few?

Any help will be gladly taken, and I will give more details if you need any.

Cheers

I will wait for pics and more details before other comments, but get Quested Monitoring. I wont say anything other than at least try them.

As for lines, I would always think more the merrier. Vocal booth 4 should be plenty, drum room i would even go as far as 16 channels. I do like a gross amounts of inputs on a drum kit, even if they dont all get used, its options later down the line.

Welcome
