the movie is dumb, but the soundtrack was cool and it was neat seeing the circle jerks play an acoustic song in the background of one scene!

such a great, funny movie. just about perfect.

Saw this for the first time the other day. I agree with Sparky about the hype kinda letting it down a bit.

I also agree that it couldn't be made these days. It's as if they were making the script up as they went along. The only comparison I could draw was They Live.

Some of these so-called classic lines don't seem too special to me but some made me laugh or at least had an amusing wtf factor.

I'll say not crap but it kinda feels like the first time you hear a really good, unusual album. You don't love it or hate it, you just think "What's going on here? I need to return to this".

Infact I listened to a Flipper album for the first time the other day and it's the same feeling.

So yeah, any of you freaks should know this, but one of those "classic lines" from this movie made it into a Big Black lyric down the line. Which one?

Didn't this get paraphrased in a Big Black lyric? Big Money, I think.
Think I'll watch this later, haven't seen it in years. Just for Harry Dean Stanton being nuts the whole way through.

The recent UK blu-ray release has the full TV version, a really fun booklet put together by Cox (called the Repo Code), and a whole load of other new and very worthwhile extra features. Best blu-ray available.

I hear Harry Dean's voice in my head, saying "Ordinary fuckin' people -- I hate 'em," at least once a week.

(I personally do not hate ordinary fuckin' people but I love this line and the way he delivers it)

I probably watched this movie 200 times in my early years.

Love it. Was totally in love with that chick who played Leila.

These are two of my favorites that haven't been mentioned yet:

The character Bud says this which Alex Cox wrote:"The guys that make it are the guys that get in their cars at any time. Get in at 3am, get up at 4.

That's why there aint a repo man I know don't take speed."

The characters of Miller and Otto share this fine exchange which Alex Cox wrote:
"A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything.

Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp.

Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate...or shrimp...or plate o' shrimp. Out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness."

".....You eat a lot of acid, Miller? Back in the hippie days?"

"I'll give you another instance: you know how everybody's into weirdness right now?..."

I will watch this again and enjoy it as much as the first time.

In my top three favorite movies of all time. I don't think one will ever be able to completely understand this movie, no matter how many repeated viewings.

This bit was used quite well in the first episode of the tv show Party Down.

I love this movie, and I love that scene. Watched the movie probably 60 times in my life.

Ever see Emilio's directing debut - Wisdom? Shitty movie, but I love that during a scene where he's riding a bus (or maybe it was the train) the phrase "Plate O Shrimp" is graffitied on the wall.

This was a pretty excellent film to see as an unduly nervous child. It translated as 'fuck everything, it's all stupid' in my tiny anxiety-ridden skull and was probably the first vaguely punk or anti-social thing I was ever exposed to, so NC for that although I haven't seen it in almost twenty years.

Great movie, although I haven't seen it in 20 years. My mate had the soundtrack and it has some cool stuff on it - especially the slow funk one that starts "..born in Chicago.. if she'll have your dog.." etc etc, whoever the fuck it is

Highway Patrolman(1991) is better than all these films.

I've gotta disagree.

I've seen both Straight To Hell and Highway Patrolman, and they both convinced me that Repo Man was all Alex Cox really had in him. Never seen Walker.

Some funny lines and Harry Dean Stanton make this movie. What little else I've seen by Alex Cox was underwhelming. Sid & Nancy gets so much wrong.

I saw Highway Patrolman a couple of months ago and I thought it was great. So different from Repo Man, it would be silly to compare them but it is a really good film. Walker has some problems but I found it highly enjoyable.

Sid & Nancy was pretty bad though.
