I think you have a point. I was thinking Negitiveland by Neu kind of slowed down and "Sabbothed" but one of the changes makes me think it is a mash up with war pigs. The other assending cromatic like thing is a lot like generic SU the two leads one is like Neu the other fuzzed like Sabbath.

I like callling William - Bill Burroughs "Billy" especially the shoot me with a big spike shot of dope lyric or whateaver- wacky world. Certain folks always said that shooting up with Burroughs was like kissing the popes ring or whateaver.

I haven't heard the song yet.

What I'll say is that every Sonic Youth album for the past decade or so has had one or two songs which are the best thing they'd done to date (even if Incinerate, off of Sonic Nurse, is a blatant Polvo rip-off---Polvo were influenced enough by SY I think that some reverse poaching isn't so terrible), a handful of standard noise and/or drone-pop numbers, and a couple of songs that are embarrassing new lows.

Most of the embarrassing moments were courtesy of Moore, it's true, but he wasn't without his high points.

You can't blame a guy whose had a career making the kind of music he has for wanting to keep going. Maybe it'll turn into something. Otherwise he'd just be sitting on his couch in band documentaries, opining.

I thought so, too.

Lyrics are horrible but that was never really a strong point of Moore's. He sounds re-energized and a little more snotty here. Can't say I'm blown away but I'm listening w/open ears... And this from someone who has not bought a Sonic Youth record since Dirty.

It goes against my better judgment to almost-enjoy this song despite the dreadful band name and title. But this music is by no means horrible. I'm too cautious to vote, though.

Incinerate is from Rather Ripped, and only remotely sounds like Polvo.

I have to admit I've had that stupid sing-a-long part playing in my head for days. Stupid Moore.

I wish he (or they) would pay attention to, y'know, melodies. The verse is like a goddamn Runaways cover, the movie version. Dakota Fanning singing. And he always just doubles his guitar lines. That can be cool sometimes, but all the time?

This is a good point. Senor Moore, keep on playing (and drinking Starbucks coffee you underground star you) and leave those documentaries alone!

Samara Lubelski and John Moloney are pretty well known in that listening-to-shit-gurgling-in-a-drain scene. Feted by men in mustard turtlenecks. This year's Jim O'Rourke.

"it’s an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world"

Maybe if they give this shit a rest it would be more palatable.

Stupid Moore would be a much better name for his band.

Yep...I get 'em all confused after Dirty anymore, but that's just because I'm an old man whose mind is growing feeble. But the octave riff in Incinerate is a direct lift from a Polvo song. The name of which escapes me, because of my old and feeble mind.

They posted another song, "Groovy and Linda." Now I happen to be inclined to cut TM a large amount of slack, but man...this...just...ugh. It's very, uh, "hippie"; and though I do not mind hippies, here I mean it not in a good way. WHY, THURSTON, WHY

With all this loopy news we're hearing about him, I predict that Thurston Moore will go the way of Ian Beale very soon:

These songs are not bad, and do sound better than SY has for a while. They go squinky squinky squee and still make it work. Me gusta.

I just saw Thurston play with Mat Gustafsson and they were bloody aggressive terrific. Started off with earnestly scribbled jazz notes, escalated to rock noise, and ended with the ghastly roar of dying electric elephants. Deafening fun, better than the last three Sonic Youth performances I've saw.
