Live Recordings in a Basement

So this friday, my freinds and I are going to attempt a live recording in a small basement room with an 8 track and a mixer. Are there any suggestions for mic placement or anything in general that would make this sound better? we have plenty of mics, but we are just unsure as to how to go about this.
