As are John Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley!

Is this not just some joke celebrities are playing, it is funnier than anything Travolta has been in?

CRAP. They're a cult started by and based on the ideas of a crappy science fiction writer who makes Piers Anthony look good. And the fact that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are members should work against them, given what tool bags those two are. But then we could get into causal analysis I guess: did Travolta and Cruise always suck, or does their suckdom stem from Scientology?

I like how L. Ron accused Christ of being kid toucher #1, especially in light of the fact that the South Park episodes dedicated to trashing Scientology asserted that he lived on a boat with a bunch of young men. Or something like that. Not sure if it's true, if he delved into molestation or invoked Cult Leader Privilege for some buggery with said young men, but it's pretty funny. I remember reading a Crap/Not Crap on South Park, which brought up a lot of valid points for it being crap, but I have to hand it to those two douche bags for attacking Scientology like they did. And let's not forget that Germany deserves some recognition for banning Cruise's new movie, Valkyrie, from filming in military sites in Berlin due to his association with Scientology.

I've just been reading about how L. Ron Hubbard was a Satanist and a follower of Aleister Crowley. Apparently, Scientology was even more than a scheme to make money. It was a scheme to break peoples' souls and make them lose their minds. L. Ron was a chronic wife beater and was deemed by a Superior Court judge to be a "pathological liar".

An FBI employee said that the only other intelligence agency in America powerful enough to rival the FBI is Scientology's. Insane.

Watch the BBC documentary, where the host is threatened and bullied by Ann Archer's son (!).

It's really hard to wrap your head around how evil this shit is.

I noticed there were a lot of misconceptions about the "thetans" and the "E-meter" and whatnot.

I would recommend anyone looking to learn more about what Scientologists actually believe in without having to join the cult and spend thousands of dollars to "get cleared" on "OT III"
to watch all 2+ hours of the following interview:

Can any you electronics buffs tell us what this circuit is?

I'm not basing this on the circuit diagram, but my understanding is that the e-meter is a galvanometer: it measures electrodermal/galvanic skin response, which is one of the things polygraph machines do. The way this is employed in Scientology is very similar to how a police department would administer a polygraph. The readout is monitored while the subject answers a series of questions. The technician notes the questions which provoke an abnormally elevated GSR. The therapeutic goal, in Scientology, is to dissipate these engrams, these stress-inducing charges of psychic energy, by talking whatever topic or trauma to death until its associated e-meter reading is lowered.

It's crude, but basically sound. If you wanted to do this, you could buy a device equivalent to an e-meter for a very small amount of money.

Harlan Ellison talks about the genesis of Scientology; an almost unbearably frenetic speaker, but interesting.

I've been doing some reading about Scientology; articles, their materials on wikileaks, Hubbard's writings. Jesus Christ, I feel poisoned. It's like sitting in a movie theater operated by a cult/thetan.
