Personally i think he was a big wussy when he could have made some actual stands against Bush.

man, you guys are just bringin' it w/the discourse

politicians are lame, ugly, and shit? right on!

congratulations--this is what the republicans want you to think, guys

they ALL vote, and the more disgusted you get, the better the chance you'll stay home or waste it if you do get to the polls

(fill in the democrat here) for president--there's a difference. if you lived through the 80s and/or have paid attention the last few years, you already realize this.

Democrats

Well, if a Dem wins, hopefully he'll have at least one difference in policy with the GOP. They are so close to clones at this point that nobody can tell the difference. Wesley Clark is showing some promise (and he kicked a Fox News reporter's ass recently) but I'm still waiting for the mess of candidates to get sorted out.

if you were trying to get an abortion, for example, you might come to terms w/how wrong you are

well

Well of course none of the elected politicians are going to be great people through and through. You have to compare them in relation to each other. I dont like Wesley Clark and kerry, they seem like they are only saying they are anti-war just to win the primary. Dean and Kucinich have seemed genuinely against it from the start.

Fair enough on the abortion issue. I guess I had pretty much chunked that away in the back of my head since the dems have consistently been pro-choice. And just for the record, I won't be seeking abortion any time soon, as I don't have a womb.

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before politics entered EA's forums. I think discussion forums have a "posters to politics" ratio - the chance of heated political debates is proportional to the number of active posters. Someone should do a thesis on that someday.

Anyway, back to politics: Bush sorely needs to get kicked out in 2004. Anyone disagree?

which is my point

you may not be gay or on welfare either

but issues involving the rights and happiness and comfort of other people involve you anyway, whether or not you remember it

and it's on these issues that the gulf between democrats and republicans exists

no

that's the whole reason i get my hackles up over the 'they all suck' argument

even if it's true--and i don't buy it--there are many degrees of sucking

Fair point, and I don't disagree with it. I also hadn't lost sight of it.

tmidgett wrote:and it's on these issues that the gulf between democrats and republicans exists

There's obviously a gulf (seeing as they are in different parties 'n all), but for some of the candidates it's not as big as you'd imagine. Take Dean for example - he supports limited forms of the death penalty and his gun control policies are a tad washy (apparently he even got an "A" rating from the NRA).

I certainly don't think they all suck - but you have to admit, Bush has a distinct advantage now with so many candidates gunning for the nomination. They are all trying to match Bush's obscene campaign budget and the messages from the Democratic sides are mixed. A lot of left-leaning voters are waiting for them to stop spinning their wheels and get their act together.

BTW - I realised earlier that I referred to the Democratic candidates as universally male, completely forgetting Carol Moseley Braun, whom I think would make a fine president.

actually I disagree Tim, I think he needs to be impeached in '03. But then that's wacky ol' me, thinking people should be punished for crimes regardless of political affiliation.

Daschle, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP! SPINELESS TEPID FETID CRAP!

As for politicians I like:

The democratic canidates are not identical to anybody who researches them, or to anybody who gets their news from places other then from the normal infotainment channels.

Politicians I like:
Rep-Barbara Lee (my rep, hooray)
Rep-Dennis Kucinich (in a better world...)
San Francisco Mayor hopeful (as of this writing) Matt Gonzalez, who is the first non-pigfucker in awhile that I can think of int he dirty world of politics. There's a good chance he's going to win the sonovabitch too.
Senator Barbara Boxer isn't too bad either

That's all California isn' t it?

Let's see, I like McCain, even though I don't agree with him politically, the man has the courage of his convictions which is more the most of these sacks of feces can say.
