Band Setup In Studio B

Postby HERSISTER- on Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:03 pm

Hello, I'm in a band looking to record in electrical studio b sometime next year. Do you guys have any pics of bands cutting records there? As part of a trio, I'm interested in how the band is set up in the studio. Are we all in the same room or what? From the records I've heard, Steve does a brilliant sound with the drums and I'm wondering how this works with regards to bleeding issues.
I hope this wasn't already covered and I appreciate the help.

pretty common to have the drums in the big room - amps in the dead room. you can easily have pass throughs so that all band members are standing in the live room playing - with amps isolated. then everyone has their own furman station and can dial in their own personal mix. or the guitar people can also be in the dead room, but have a floor to ceiling sliding door to see the drummer clearly - which you'd want if you have to do some sort of feedback-y part or something that can't be done when you're out in the live room.

you'd be suprised w/the isolation you can get btw a bass amp and gtr amp both blasting in the dead room of B.

there are some pics from a session i did a while back here. shows drums and bass player in live room tracking, where the other gtr player liked being isolated.

then again, if you're going for a dead drum sound... flip it around. you can probably do what you want to - just talk it over w/whoever's recording it.

True that. With the unused Hiwatt 4x12 cab as an extra baffle, crosstalk was at a minimum between the guitar amp and bass amp, and our amps were stage-volume loud.
