Thunderdome: AC/DC vs. Motorhead

Postby Marsupialized on Sat Oct 18, 2008 8:17 pm

This came up last night at the bar.

We had a lot of strong opinions but no true consensus.

So, I bring it here.

Which is a more all around enjoyable rock band to be listening to when it comes to sitting around drinking in a bar?
Would you rather someone put 5 Motorhead songs on the jukebox or 5 AC/DC songs?

Through no fault of their own, AC/DC loses 'cause I'm sick of hearing them. Motorhead takes it. WF 4.

I actually find Moterhead pretty boring. I dunno, kinda like KISS and the Melvins, they do absolutely nothing for me.

AC/DC on the other hand fucking RULES.

so....

Uh, AC/DC is quite fucking valid in my books. Read, think, and type a little more carefully, Venky.

Stop for a second and imagine a loud annoying blonde woman sitting near you in a bar annoying the shit out of you. Just yap yap yap yap.

Now imagine an AC/DC song comes on. She would probably say 'Oh! AC/DC! I looooove them' and start singing along if not dancing. Annoying you even more.

Now imagine a Motorhead song comes on.
She's gonna hate that shit. She's probably gonna get up and leave and not annoy you any more.

You can now drink your delicious beer in peace.

Motorhead wins.

Wow, I can't believe this isn't a land slide...

I find Motorhead kinda boring too.

Ac/Dc Bon Scott-era just kills. The guitars melt speakers, the songs are funny and inventive, the energy is there...just all-around ass kicking music. Perfect with a beer.

Ac/Dc by a country mile.

Motorhead. Completely. I'd say both of them wrote one song, and wrote it well, but it's up to the band I can listen to without cringing.

Great thunderdome.

I'm a rabid fan of both bands.

AC/DC's high water marks are probably a little bit higher, but they have written a grand total of two great songs post Back In Black.

The quality of Motorhead's catalog varies wildly, but they were releasing decent and relevant albums as late as 1995's Sacrifice. That's the latest album of theirs I own. I wouldn't be at all surprised if their last couple of albums have some jams.

I saw Motorhead in Vancouver in 2002, and they fucking killed it. Lemmy hasn't aged a day since the late 80's. The band looks and sounds great.

Have you seen any recent footage of Brian Johnson live? So sad.

If I wanted to see either band on their current tour, I could pay $97.50 to see AC/DC at some gay arena. Or I could spend $60-70 less to see Motorhead at a big club or a small theater. The AC/DC show would be full of douchebags, the Motorhead show would be full of old-school metalheads and punks.

Motorhead don't have any albums as great as Powerage or Back In Black, but for every AC/DC album as good as Dirty Deeds or Let There Be Rock, Motorhead have two or three that are about as good. They have twice as many good albums as AC/DC, I think.

Motorhead takes the thunderdome. Not by a mile, but at least by 300 years.

It was funnier that way, I thought. Oh well.

Btw, Motorhead rules. I vote AC/DC.

Ace of Spades v's Back in Black?

This is pretty tough.

AC/DC has been one of my favorite bands for a long, long time.

To go see live today: Motorhead. The WalMart thing pisses me off as well.

Despite all of this, AC/DC.

Motorhead. I get as excited listening to Fast Eddie and the crew as I did when I was 14.
