I felt their name was stupid for years, so I wouldn't listen to them, I like them though. They haven't made their one "go to" album yet, but there's enough great stuff that they have done, and not enough clunkers to give it a very firm: NOT CRAP.

i liked the stuff on the radio that i heard from these guys, but i saw them on television once and thought it was some crappy numetal band. when i realized it was the queens of the stoneage, i was a little irked. urked. erked? but the singles aren't that bad. there should be a "crap-but-not-crap" option.

faces! :x :P      8) :) :D

I hate the name, too, but as I have only heard one song by them and 'tis a good one that harkens back to the good kind of stoner rock, I will say NOT CRAP.

That song is "No One Knows". Better than Kiss.

two words - Dave Grohl

If Dave Grohl played drums for Nsync, I'd say not Crap.

Restored my dwindling faith in tuned down to C music that could carry a falsetto melody without resorting to lyrics about just how much you can never understand me...man. (Near actual quote).

Not crap, but witnessing Nick Oliveri play naked makes me wince.

Ok I've only heard one album, -the most recent one i believe. I kinda dug the music, not great or groundbreaking, but listenable. But the horrible "radio " talk in between songs, i guess it's supposed to be funny but it comes across as gimmicky and sophomoric. I picture the band drinking mountain dew and eating doritios while simutaniously playing video games, and coming up with the brilliant ideas for their little radio sketches.

i dunno , im gonna havta go with crap just for the radio shit. :WF: 5

Back to Dave Grohl... Can someone ask Steve what snare he used on in utero?

I know that Dave always used either a pearl or Tama deep snare (14x6? maybe 14x5.5) mostly maple wood snares. i tihnk i saw him periodicly use the stock snare that came with his set, which is a metal snare. On in Utero it certainly sounds like a wood snare. You also have to take into acount the way Dave plays as to why his drums sound the way they do.

NOT CRAP but I'm not too enthusiastic about this new record coming out next year.
From NME:
As previously reported, Shirley Manson from Garbage and Homme’s girlfriend Brody Dalle from The Distillers also turn up on the album.

This makes me not even want to hear this record.
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

The first album is great...one time I tripped on shrooms and listened to it for 9 hours...the second one is pretty good too. The one with Grohl is horrible. not crap

For a heavy rock band they sound curiously un-heavy to these ears. 'Feelgood Hit Of The Summer' is a song in a million, but overall....shit, this is tougher than I thought. Okay, just about N/C, but you could open a diner with the amount of waffles stored up.

I think Eagles Of Death Metal are better, actually.

And I like High On Fire. A lot. High On Fire have (to my knowledge) nothing to do with QOTSA, but with people mentioning stoner rock....The Queens just sound so timid next to Matt Pike and co.
Back off man, I'm a scientist.

The distillers have always been up there with The Donnas on my "man, who must they be fucking?" list, but I think this thread has answered exactly who the lead singer is fucking.

not crap -- i only own the first album, but i like to listen to it once or twice a year... when i do, i turn it up nice and loud on headphones. i've heard that they never did anything good after the first record... but i haven't been able to judge for myself yet... i don't think i like the first album so much that i'll be buying another one by these guys.

I think this is a good band. Their guitar wankery is top notch, they had the rock live, and they don't seem overly arrogant or pretentious....so a vote of not crap...I wouldn't mind fucking that chick from the distillers either

Not crap - Especially the The first two albums and "A Song for the Deaf" from the last one. Agreed that the guitar wankery is kept to a stylish, effective minimum. Although, if this girl from the Distillers is the same one that sang on the last Desert Sessions release then, yeah, not good...

Yuck in fact. Say it isn't so.
