I'm moving to Montreal next year for university, so it had better be the better one.

Well, what are you more into, promiscuous sex or rampant drug use?

I like that Toronto got left out. That is all.

Van.

My girlfriend grew up there, so she'd kill me if I said otherwise.

Cool city, pretty good record shops, a few of them stick big IMPORTED stickers on records from U.S. labels and charge out the ass for them. You don't need to charge $10 extra bucks for a fucking Wipers record, Washington state is like right fucking there. There was one really good record store that didn't do this, got a Big Black 7", Budd EP, and something else for what they would cost in the States.

Their music scene blows, bunch of lo-fi hipster bullshit.

Long live the midwest.

Vancouver has the only actual bad neighborhoods in Canada and lots of crack cocaine.

Montreal has poutine and The Dirty Tricks.

No brainer for me.

We stayed in what we were told was the absolute worst part of Vancouver and it was nothing, just a bunch of junkies wandering around like zombies.
I did not at all feel uneasy about stumbling back to the hostel at 3am there.

Haha. I couldn't walk half a block without being propositioned by either a crack dealer or a prostitute, but they were all very polite.

"You wanna by some shit?"
"No thanks."
"Well, aigh-aight then."

"Hey sweetie, you want a date?"
"No thanks."
"Bye sweetie!"

I guess "bad neighborhoods" is kind of overstating it, but I know of tons of bands that have gotten their shit ripped off in Vancouver. I guess that happens lots of places, though.

One thing we noticed was that Montreal has by far the best dressed homeless people I have ever seen anywhere in the world.

Vancouver has a lot of hedges from what I remember. Lots of tall hedges and modest topiary.

The food was much better in Montreal, I'll say that much.
I like that you can walk 10 minutes and be in deep ass wild animals everywhere forest from the city center in Vancouver, though.
We saw a fucking bear!
The only bears we saw in Montreal were in the swinger's club and that was not at all something I'd want to see again.

Montreal is a great place to be. the winters though - i'm used to it. it's not like it's Winnipeg cold or anything...
