Not Crap.

Based on, Video Quartet, a 4-screen video-collage of parts of famous films which feature musicians. All the footage and their accompanying soundtracks are seamlessly mixed into each other. The result sounds and looks absolutely incredible.

I've also seen him play with Derek Bailey. Again, Not Crap.

i like his work.

i've met a fair number of different artists (mostly musicians, but some filmmakers, writers, etc.), and Marclay is definitely among the most likable i've encountered. (sadly, this is not the norm, that people whose work i like are actually kind and respectful, towards me at least.)

I was lucky enough to be in Seattle a couple years back when the modern art museum there had a huge Marclay retrospective. It included the video piece Cranius mentioned.

Overall, this show was hugely entertaining.

What music of his I've heard, I've liked.

I like Drumkit quite a lot.

But Rodney Graham is better.

Not that they are the same.

They are different. Rodney Graham is better.

Go see this at Penn:

Kim Gordon interview with Graham:

Also, his last record, Rock is Hard has some numbers on it.

Many of his other numbers are not any good, however.

(Marclay: Okay!)

I've just found this Marclay piece that I saw at the Hayward Gallery a few years ago. I remember watching it twice, a silly child.

There is some text claiming references to Fluxus, rock concert ritual, road movies and Southern lynching, which might hold. However, now as then, I think that it simply blasts.

Video Quartet was the first video installation I saw that I had to sit through about 5 times to fully appreciate, and I enjoyed the hell out of every second.

There's clips on YouTube, and if you haven't seen it, you should check them out. It's not like being there, but it gives you an idea of the magnitude of the work.

I've played with Christian a few times, and he was always pleasant to me (in a professional manner, he was not very chatty or anything.)

Re-listening stuff I have/used to have.
Records is interesting, and thankfully some tracks are actual "music"
Live improvisations with Günter Müller on the other hand was quite boring
More encores: jeeeeeesus... Boring as fuck, mostly pointless

I think tomorrow I'll just go back to listen something more ignorant LOL
