It's really, really good.

You can find it on the internets if you look.

This has the potential to be as good as Blessed Black Wings. Only time will tell.

Dislike the new one on first listen. Will give it a few more passes.

I'm kind of bummed about the drum sound but, I like the songs.

They've lost something and it's not just the generic metal guitar and drum sound.

I've listened to it once, I gotta say, not sounding too great. But I'm not giving up.

Yeah. I'm still going to see them when they swing by.

Technically, I've now shared a joint with Jeff Matz. Someone passed him a joint of fine BC bud during their set, he took a few pulls, and then handed it to my friend and we each had a toke before passing it on. It's like hippie shit, in the midst of a deafening and sweaty heavy metal assault.

I hadn't seen this stub piece in Modern Drummer featuring Des's thoughts on recording drums with Herr Albini til recently. Because of the clipped length of this little piece, it closes in such a way that if you'd never heard of Steve Albini you'd think he was a regular participant in hippie drum circles:

During the trio's latest studio sessions, Albini didn't mess too much with Kensel's approach. But he did capture what's best about it - with carefully chosen and placed microphones. The band would play live in the studio, and after Albini determined what frequencies needed to stand out, he picked mic's accordingly. "He's a scientist in that way," Kensel notes. Albini, however, did inspire Kensel to get somewhat experimental on the album's final track, "Sons Of Thunder." According to Kensel, "Those huge fills were inspired by a big hippie drum circle."

The sound of the drums on the new album is truly uninspired.

Maybe I need to play it more so it sinks in, but the new album is sort of a let down, compared to the last two, and the rest of the discography. The songs just don't stand out, and the drum sounds, and guitar tone leave a lot to be desired.

I absolutely agree, but at the same time, it's a new High on Fire album and even though Greg Fidelman has attempted to tame the beast, it's still a thing of monstrous beauty. "Ghost Neck" is so fucking wicked.

God, I hate the kick drum sound on this. Trying to get over it and enjoy the songs, which are pretty good. Who is this Greg Fidelman and why is he allowed to record music?

it is definitely a bummer to think of how much better Snakes For The Divine would have been with some decent production.

Album sounds fine to me, honestly. I like it a fuckload better than anything they did since Surrounded by Thieves. Then again, listening to metal isn't foreign to me... if you guys think the drums on SftD sound bad or artificial, I got some classic albums in the genre you need to listen to. Besides all that, the drumming itself is fucking bonkers.

Oh yeah, okay. NC.

To me, the live in a room sound of the last two records does the band a lot more justice than a more plain jane metal record approach.

The sound of the new record isn't terrible. It's just feels like a step in the wrong direction.
