I was considering renting House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects as a double feature. Are they just winking, self referential horror films or the real deal? I do like the idea that Zombie gives the main psycho's names after Marx Brother characters.

IMO, Zombie is a talented director, but a piss-poor screen writer. House Of A Thousand Corpses is an okay B-splatter movie. Devil's Rejects is aesthetically spot-on but suffers from lame dialogue.

Both are worth renting.

At least Robert knows which movies are good. This is the list he'll be featuring on TCM in October. They're on late, so hopefully the editing will be kept to a minimum, but it will be worth it just to Tivo a clean print of Mudhoney.

Friday, October 13
2 a.m.: PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1959)
3:30 a.m.: BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (1955)

Friday, October 20
2 a.m.: FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! (1965)
3:30 a.m.: MUDHONEY (1965)

Friday, October 27
2 a.m.: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)
3:45 a.m.: THE CRAZIES (1973)

Friday, November 3
2 a.m.: SISTERS (1973)

Friday, November 10
2 a.m.: ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE (1973)

Friday, November 17
2 a.m.: FREAKS (1932)
3 a.m.: MARK OF THE VAMPIRE (1935)

Friday, November 24
2 a.m.: THE SADIST (1963)
3:45 a.m.: WILD GUITAR (1962)

Friday, December 1

I really had fun watching "Devil's" while "House" totally bored me. NC I guess, heavy waffles.

ditto. House of 1000 was EXACTLY what I expected. Everything I wanted and hoped to see was there. Really fun and ridiculous. Extra points for Chris Hardwick and small role from Walt Goggins (I was big into the Shield when House came out).

Devil's Rejects didn't do as much. Dug Priscilla Barnes though.

I thought the acting in Devil's Rejects was pretty weak. Rob Zombie's girlfriend--although friendly on the eyes--is not much behind a camera. Every one of her scenes seemed like it was only the best she could do (which really wasn't much, in my opinion anyway).

I also think that putting Free Bird in any movie is the ultimate low-blow.

You could watch someone shitting in slo-mo while that song is playing and it'll seem "deep" and "meaningful" to someone.

It's a fun B movie. I didn't know what to expect when I rented it. Now I do. I'll probably pass on House of 1000 Corpses.

I thought House of a Thousand Corpses was really good, haven't seen the other one though. There are annoying as hell scenes that look like music videos and that was the only bad part. Not crap!

Rob is a vampire. He's been that way for most his life. Funny thing is, he's
found a number of talented people to emulate which has made him an
tolerable director. It's essentially the same thing he did to Jim Thirlwell.
He steals methods which essentially turns anything he does into a product.

Crap.

Nothing special, really. House was alot better on Robitussin.

Yeah, I would definitely recommend watching House robotripping, then Rejects right after so towards the end you'll be coming down (if you ever really come down from that shit). It will compliment the movies nicely.

Boy, Lords of Salem looks godawful.

Rob Zombie has good taste, but his work is all CRAP. He's like the Tarantino of horror movies. Insubstantial, second-hand bullshit.

I'm looking forward to it. Bruce Dern was even gonna be in it!

Parts I saw make it seem kind of psychedelic, like The Trip or The Mask.

Can't wait!

I'm wondering if it will suck enough to tilt and hit decent.

First, it did not suck enough to hit decent. Some of the serious element was actually solid.

Second, dude owes David Lynch some chips.

I have House 1000. Don't know why. I consider it unwatchable and will almost certainly never look at it again. Pointless.

Devil's was seen over the shoulder, so to speak, while sitting at a bar and waiting to go on stage. Meh.

Crap.

Didn't like the first Hallowe'en so haven't watched the second, assuming he's not much good reworking others' material, but 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects - the dude pulls it off, and by 'it', I mean a whole jizzy mess of bubbling, malformed juvenile... enthusiasm. Ew. Really looking forward to Lords of Salem, that trailer looks wonderful, like taking a bathyscaphe into the pure id of the collective trash-horror subconscious. I like how he takes good stuff and taints it with shit.
