Things I don't expect from Rob Zombie: coherent story, realism, character development, or development of any kind, nor anything traditionally associated with quality cinema.

Things I do expect: tons of more or less disjointed images and sequences, the kind of lurid shit that looks cool to a perverted adolescent horror-enthusiast/Cramps fan's sensibility, somehow strung together in the form of a 90-minute movie.

If I get what I expect, I will be happy.

Did you like 1000 Corpses or Devil's Rejects?

One guy's take -

Coherent, decent piece of psychological horror right up until shit goes all Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Four or five great(in my mind) performances. It's like dude made his Citizen Kane.

Liked both of the films you mentioned. Got choked up during the "Freebird" section of Rejects.

Zombie has loaded his latest with a lot of awesome actors. Too bad his entire oeuvre only has that going for him. Such a waste of the great Sid Haig.

I'm pretty sure he has said the quite a bit of what they shot wound up falling by the wayside. Seems like Sid Haig came up while Zombie was describing to footage that was cut.

Rob Zombie makes better movies than music. Whatever that says.

Three From Hell wound being surprisingly "Meta".

31 was a tough call. Had it's moments, but the "Greatest Hits..." were really getting some airplay.

That's an interesting alternate word for "recycling." Did you read BDH's review? Brutal. Have yet to see the movie, but feel like their takedown is accurate based on past performances. I want the little dude to be great at this. It's obviously his passion, but he is recycling at this point.

He needs to direct from a screenplay written by someone else.

Good/Bad/Indifferent, I was talking "Meta" strictly in the most technical sense of the term. About three or four moments that felt like they were literally aimed at folks who had seen the films and were aware of what happened during the making of this film.

That said, it wasn't exactly The Magnificent Ambersons. With that reality out of the way, I had to give it credit for being a decent effort that came from behind the eight ball.

One other thing, Sheri Moon Zombie is a better "Joker" than people that have been paid to play the role.

One other quick thing...

Seemed like there as at least two "Tommy Bolin"-era James Gang songs on the soundtrack.

That will just about save a movie all by itself.

Damn straight!

I was just watching a Bolin doc the other day.

From what I took the minute to note, it felt like the tunes were from the album Bang.

It was pretty great to hear them over the big sound system. It was like they looked at me, and saw one of those cartoon "Sucker" drawings where my head should have been.
