Well, unfortunately having unpacked my copy of BS, half of it appears to be missing - the larger books are present but all the newspaper ones and some smaller pamphlets are not. Looks like I'll be reading Jimmy Corrigan first. Bummer.

After reading the various reviews online, I'm left wondering if Ware was (partly) inspired by Perec's most famous book.

that sucks. is there a complete list of the contents somewhere, either with the box itself or on the internet? all the stuff inside of mine was shrink wrapped in a single pile as was the box itself, but i'd be bummed if things were missing.

Jimmy Corrigan is more linear (and more melodramatic) than BS, but it has its share of convolutions. BS is, by its nature, going to be more fragmented. If you haven't read any Chris Ware before then I think reading the Jimmy Corrigan book will probably let you enjoy Builiding Stories more.

Where is the new book found for $35? I have seen it in shops in Chicago and Milwaukee for $50, which is the list price on the back of the box.

It was available for $26 on Amazon for ages as a pre-order and after. Now it's listed for $31 but is unavailable. I wonder if they'll print up more.

Ah, I should have figured. I guess I have trained myself to not think of Amazon.

Well, this book is special and I love Ware so I guess I can pop for the $50 at a shop that still has copies.

Feel like I should get it from Quimby's since he's so tied to that place... I noticed that there they had a couple special sets of special 'bonus supplements' or something for a lot of extra $$ on the wall behind the register... Seems like that material would hold value at least.

I don't think this guy worked for years on this to let it go out of print or get a regular format version, it'll probably stay in print as it is.

I agree. JC is a good way to understand where the dude is coming from, and BS is a far more mature work. I think it would be a completely different experience depending on what order you read them in...

Building Stories was just picked up for a class here at MSU, so we got in 5 copies to sell. I'm picking one up before I leave tonight.

It seems Mr. Ware himself would vote crap for his early work.

All your posts of examples of the better bits have me intrigued, as a person of very limited comic awareness. Where's the "write on your back" snippet from the beginning of this thread from?
