Have you listened to the OOP records I cited? I somehow doubt it.

Welp, all right then. Hardly "unlistenable", though, mind still blown.

Probably true, too. Just from being exposed to Euro pop culture and mass media for an x years, there were, like, a couple million things I instantly recognized in Kraftwerk when I first heard them.

Just hearing Kraftwerk called "unlistenable" literally made me squirm. My head tilted and my body contorted itself a little bit, rejecting the very notion. No joke!

That German radio boot from 1970 is another great example of "listenable" Kraftwerk that even my Deadhead hippie friend enjoyed.

Ughhhh please! First of all The New Blockaders kick bloody ass. Hooks? Melodys? We live in different world my friend. Kraftwerk are repsonsible for synth pop and electro, and boy do those genres suck. Yes, Juan Atkins and all of them can go get fucked. If you like extremely Germanic harmonius melodic music then that is your preference. My preference is otherwise.

I was commenting on the suitability of the word 'unlistenable', not the quality or influence of any particular band.

I still wonder why the English mixes suck so bad. That German thing goes deep...

Irrelevant. Completely irrelevant.

Indeed. Nobody blames Les Paul for engineers who do bad overdubs, either.

Or for 80's hair bands who happened to have a guitarist who played a '72 Standard.

In July I'm going to Hildersheim, Germany with the school I work at to do sound for the choir tour. I'm driving the van full of equipment over with a couple of the teachers and am determined that as soon as we get on the motorway it will be "Fun, fun, fun auf der Autobahn" all the way. I have the feeling they're not going to get it, but has to be done...

Well there's english and german versions of several of their albums, so think I misheard/assumed it was 'fun, fun, fun...'

Bollocks.

I like my version better.

(a Googling reveals this is quite a common mistake...)

I hope all of you who enjoy Kraftwerk have heard Senor Coconut's brilliant album of Kraftwerk covers, El Baile Aleman. it was about 10 years ago, while listening to these Latin versions of the tunes, that I realized that beyond the technology and the automatons and image, Kraftwerk wrote really amazing songs.

Kraftwerk were definitely not crap.

Kraftwerk is one of my favorite bands, but I finally picked up Electric Cafe today and it mostly sucks.

This album rules.

Also a fan of the Laibach-related Trans-Slovenia Express covers record.

I even like Electric Cafe, for god's sake.

Not crap at all, well, maybe their new stuff. But Man Machine, Trans Europe, and Radioactivity are three of the greatest albums of all time.
