I'd never heard of this guy until I listened to the first track of "Too Much Sugar For a Dime" in a record store over a decade ago and became an instant fan.

(bump)

I'm liking Too Much Sugar For a Dime quite a bit upon first listen. I don't know anything else about this guy and his music.

one of my favorite composers. vijay iyer's trio just covered little pocket sized demons on their new record. couldn't imagine any other piano trio pulling that off.

anyway, you guys get into his newer shit at all? i'm a big fan of the zooid material. this brings us to blew me away when it came out.

Dunno how many people think of Threadgill as "catchy," but he writes hooks that lodge into my brain. Easily Slip Into Another World is particularly guilty, to the point that sometimes when I noodle around on guitar I find myself playing "I Can't Wait Til I Get Home."

(Yes, I know Olu Dara wrote that song, but the whole album is loaded with hooks.)

NC with Air, NC with Very Very Circus, NC in any other context I've heard.

It's catchy. I was hooked on first listen, this was the (aforementioned) track:

Here's a great three-part text interview, I particularly liked part three:

The Mosaic box is well worth your time and money. The consistency in quality is very good for an 8 disk set. Much more fun than the equivalent Braxton box.

it contains:

Air
Open Air Suit
Montreux Suisse Air
Air Lore

Threadgill sessions
X 75 Vol 1 & 2
You Know The Number
Easily Slip Into Another World
Rag Bush & All

Bump.

Oh man, I love his music so deeply.

Been on a major kick again. Picked up the two Psi CDs that came out in 2018.

I didn't even know about that Mosaic box. Now it looks like I will have to pick it up at some point. There's another 7 CD complete set of his stuff on Black Saint and Soul Note that I also need to pick up – that one's comparatively cheap.

He turns 75 this year. Have tried to lobby to get the jazz festival here to do a big bday celebration/spotlight featuring lots of different groups of his. At least I can dream.

Just got the Black Saint boxed set (not much in terms of packaging or documentation, btw) and am currently enjoying:

Also, now there's a bandcamp page for this:
