I very much wish I could understand German.

In 1978 I got a free copy of the Obscure Alternatives lp from a radio station. Love is Infectious seemed to be the best song, I wound up placing it on several mix tapes. When Robert Fripp asked David Sylvian to join King Crimson, David said no, but they made a few records. I haven't heard any of them. Are they any good?

Not Crap, but that is my limited exposure to Japan.

I would check out Damage. It some time to warm up to but I grew quite fond of it.

At least = Great bass player that didn't take the "I have a fretless bass" thing too far.

Damage is the live album (of which there are two versions, Fripp's and Sylvian's) derived from the one studio release they did (The First Day). Haven't heard the Sylvian mix of Damage, but I rank Fripp's above the studio album, which is sort of sterile, and also plagued by a lot of dated 90's faux-electronica elements. The live album also has versions of three older Sylvian tracks that are probably superior to their album counterparts.

I paid attention to them for the first time yesterday, prompted by this thread. My first thought was “so THAT’S who Duran Duran was ripping off.”

Not crap, based on what I heard.

Yeah, the one album sound like a tape-effects version of Duran Duran.
