So it took me almost a year, but the new album is really growing on me. It sounds like Mary Timony really wore off on Carrie.

NOT CRAP, I see these gals as part of a tradition that includes Mission of Burma and Fugazi, smart, dynamic, Clash-influenced punk rock with dual vocals and diverse influences. It's just that Sleater have a different set of influences, more peppy new wave and girl group than dub reggae or experimental post-punk.

Plus, have you heard their guitar playing? Some seriously great shit going on there, at times it even sounds like "Trout Mask Replica", just that in the context of catchy, conventionally melodic songs! The underrated "All Hands On the Bad One" is my fave 'cause it's the most guitar interplay focused of their albums, me thinks.

I think The Hot Rock is my favorite for guitar interplay. Often sounds like Carrie & Corin are playing different songs (in a good way).

I sorta wish they'd go back to just guitar->occasional overdrive-> amp like in the Dig Me Out/THR/AHOTBO days. Hell, I think they've both got Bradshaw pedal systems now.

There’s every reason to hate the new song: it’s poppy, and it has that thick digital sheen that everything else has now. I guess it sounds like St Vincent, who produced it?

But I think it’s fucking fantastic.

Yeah they're not exactly being subtle about it, with sleek outfits and choreographed moves. And a keyboard addition because of course.

There was this stunod article in P.ork today about how the "trio" played on Jimmy Faillon's show last night, and the photo shows FIVE people on stage, including the keyboard player. I was pointing to it and shouting because getting angry about nothing is how I choose to live.

What?

Keyboards in Sleater-Kinney is like keyboards in Fugazi.

(apologies to whichever FM is Fugazi's keyboardist)

“Hurry on Home” is great.

“The Future is Now” is . . . not good. At all. Maybe the first downright bad song in their entire career.

As far as keys go, SK have used them for years. They toured with a fourth member, who played keyboards and sometimes guitar, a few years ago. I think they might have with The Woods too.

S-K looked SO unnatural in that Tonight Show performance last month...

I typically buy S-K tix any time they come to Chicago, but I was hedging this time until the album came out, so I could listen to first.... Janet is a FORCE, this is a loss...

Marsupialized and I will be lighting votives tonight in her honor...

Love them. I'm going to miss Janet. I am proceeding with caution on the new album. The last one was solid, even if I rarely go back to it when I want to listen to S-K.

The Woods is my favorite album of the '00's decade. 'Jumpers' is a hell of a song.

I'm just glad it's no longer sexist to think this band is boring.

Yeah, I felt uncomfortable watching that, the performance was very awkward.

"The Future is Here" sounds like a bad impersonation of the electronic indie/dance bands that were popular in 2009. Terrible lyrics.

The other tracks I heard were much of the same. Bummer.

I am so confused by this new feminism, and its so-called champions. What, am I not supposed to see the butt? Is that Carrie's butt? How does her head spin around like that. But most important. WHY? Just WHY?
