I like the song One Beat a lot. Based on this, what other songs of theirs should I listen to?

This one is fierce, I think it's on 'The Hot Rock'

The first record is good:

also, Call the Doctor is a masterpiece:

The rest is all hit and miss

The Woods is great. I saw their second-to-last show and wish I was able to see more. NC.

I was a bit harsh on S-K here a few years ago.

I don't like this band now but I love the hate on this thread, especially Kerble's posts.

That said I stand by my NC vote.

I'll say this though, that eponymous debut album by Excuse 17 is the lamest record I own and I've bought some crap albums over the years.

In Portland? I got stupid ass drunk and was shown my way out of that show.

I saw them four or five times, the best was at a small club in Bellingham just before The Woods came out. One of the two or three best rock shows I've ever seen, they just tore that place up, and the new songs were a complete revelation. Didn't know they could pull anything like that off, especially after being not all that into One Beat.

Miss this band a lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if they play together again at some point.

I just heard this band for the first time. I like them. Which album should I buy first?

Dig Me out or All Hands on the Bad One. Then The Hot Rock, The Woods, and Call the Doctor after those. Then One Beat. Don't bother with the self-titled first album.

Nonsense, Call The Doctor is by far the best, it's a masterpiece, followed by Dig me out and The Self Titled.
Hot Rock has some tracks, One Beat and All Hands have like, two or three each. The rest have one or two decent ones and a bunch of just ok tracks. They got progressively wimpier and wimpier, basically. The early stuff is fierce and catchy as fuck, later there's some bullshit.

No. Coulda sworn that Lollapalooza 06 was the second to last one. I could be (and probably am) wrong.

Worth a revisit, these albums actually only have one or two middling songs. All Hands On The Bad One is nearly as good as Call The Doctor and One Beat isn't far behind.

What he said.

I saw them live a few times around Call The Doctor and Dig Me Out and they brought the rock. I kind of gave up on them after The Hot Rock. I'd buy the new record, listen to it a few times, maybe listen a few more a week later and that would be it. I sold all but the first three and don't miss them at all.

The Wild Flag record has made me dig out One Beat again and I'm liking it a lot more now than I did when it came out.

I'll go on the record as liking this band... can only vouch for the first four records. Saw them in Portland back in '98, recall they put on a pretty good show.

I bought Dig Me Out recently. It's fucking awesome. The fact that I went through high school, college, and my entire twenties without hearing this band or Silkworm is a fucking crime.

I knew very little about this band when, many years ago, I moved to Olympia to be with this girl I had fallen for. Olympia had a reputation as a vainglorious place, so when we came upon a road called Sleater-Kinney, I turned to my new love, the little monster, and said, "You people named a fucking road after this band??!"

She kept me around for quite awhile, despite moronic, everyday utterances like this one.

And if you have never been there, Olympia is a great town.
