not crap, becuz they're essentially a suped-up rhythm section (baritone sax, bass, drums) I think they're best when are playing w/ a Mats Gustafsson, Fred Longberg-Holm, etc. Also, despite possible Patton/Zorn-isms they are still not crap, which is not crap.

The Spaceways Inc/ZU record Radiale is about a 1000 times better then it has any right to be.

I only saw them live, it was amazing. Like a ballerina on steriods, very delicate music performed with a very heavy and very loud yet cristal clear sound.

Amazing snare sound also on that show.

My band did a handful of shows with them in the UK at one point. They were great to watch every night. Nice guys too.

Saw them on a festival a week ago. Christ almighty, they killed everyone in the room twice, easily one of the best gigs I've ever attended. NOT CRAP.

Yeah, so the drummer's playing with The Bloody Beetroots now and Zu's Italian wiki page says he's leaving the band. Balls.

That is really sad. I first saw these guys at the Ex's 25 years' celebrations. Gloriously noisy. Jacopo is an exceptional drummer. Like a giant spider with sticks.

Oh weird. I met that drummer in a bar in Tokyo last year and we had a great time just hanging out and talking about post-hardcore. Super cool guy.

One of my favourite bands. I have spent way too many hours listening to Igneo! They also did one of the most intense concerts I've ever seen.

I hope that this guys don't break up, that'd be a pity.

Hmm, so I didn't see the myspace post:

Zu: ch - ch- ch- changes
Dear Zu friends and aficionados. We've got news for you. Bad on one side, as Zu for the first time since 10 years is changing its line-up. Our drummer Jacopo Battaglia has decided to leave the band and focus on other projects. We'll play a last bunch of shows in March 2011 so he can say bye to our audience in the best way, and there is no better way for us to seperate than playing together. No grudge, no hard feelings, we wish Jacopo all the best for his future creative endeavours. On the other side, the band will go on, as Massimo and Luca both feel strongly that the mine that gave us 14 albums and more than 1500 gigs worldwide is far from being exhausted . We will announce as soon as possible the new line-up and we strongly look forward to go on creating music as Zu. - Feb 2011

Cant wait to hear a new album. Just got into them, this is seriously the biggest move forward in a noise rock band that I've heard since shellac or maybe young widows.

The sax player has a newish duo with the drummer from Neo (a Roman band):

Spastic math-jazz stuff. New album just came out and they killed when I saw them recently. My friend says they're in the studio recording another project which adds a guitarist. I'm unusually excited.

Zu have finally put out a new EP Goodnight Civilization. They now have Gabe Serbian from the Locust on drums.

The physical form features a sweet etching on the B-side.

There were a few aborted attempts to do shows a while back, but the finally got around to it this year. I saw them recently and it was disappointing... The new drummer's great at doing fast and heavy (obviously), but the old drummer had a massive palette; the songs were textured and precise, and the drummer was kind of the "lead" member. A lot of that seems to have gotten lost...

I guess it's worth holding out for more new material, at least.

Saw them last night. They were very good, really like their new stuff and they've completely embraced that new guy. Blast beats! Lots of them!
I think I preferred their old drummer. As you say, Andy- he was more of a lead than a drummer.

Still very good though.
