he said that?!

last night a good friend of mine reiterated his lifelong distaste for david bowie's music..
that is too much for me! i think it's as unsettling for me when people hate bowie as any other artist that i'm into.
god is a gentleman. he prefers blondes.

Apart from that, my first impression is that the song's crap and the video is ridiculous. If this is a return to form, then I'll pass.

This sounds like a ringing endorsement to me....

The song "Lazarus" off the new album has a really nasty Big Black guitar tone to it (from about a minute in). It's bizarre...I like that Bowie is still doing weird shit, all these years later. Good for him.

Not crap. I don't keep up with his recent work, but he's got a huge amount of great tunes.

'Labyrinth' was one of my favorite movies as a kid. My folks got it for me on VHS as a gift one year, back when VHS tapes of movies had to be special ordered.

I got to see Bowie in 2002, he was on the Area2 tour with Moby, Busta Rhymes, Blue Man Group, etc. Played a great 90 minute set.
- "Whatever happened to that album?"
- "I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall, and it like, shattered."

Happy Birthday, David Bowie, why did I have to be born on the 9th instead of the 8th? Just me and Richard Nixon sharing a birthdate, instead of me and Bowie and Elvis, on the 8th...

Happy Birthday indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. We talked about Deerhoof. He was the nicest man. I'm not often star struck but he's simply excellent.

So, Jacques has another special tonight on RadioNOPE... a salute to Bowie:
In one hour on Radio NOPE, the Fat White Duke plays three hours of his favorites by the Thin White Duke (and the Weird Scary Monsters Clown Dude, and White Pants and Red Stratocaster Guy, and Ear of Corn).
It's the Songs From Under the Floorboards David Bowie special!
RadioNOPE

it's on in a bit over 10 minutes for those that might be interested.
