After those first two albums (three to many) they get a lifetime pass for "Hard" and beyond.

So.

http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/gangoffour

Don’t just listen to Gang Of Four’s new album - Be part of its launch

Greetings from London.

We’re emerging blinking into the light after many months locked in Andy’s studio, clutching Gang of Four’s new album: Content. Later this summer you’ll be able to buy it on download or CD. But we’re offering weirder and more wonderful options to a limited number of GO4 aficionados. What about taking a helicopter trip to this summer’s Glastonbury Festival with us? Or you might enjoy a listen to our first ever gig (recorded in Leeds in May 1977), provided to you on a cassette inside a Walkman individually decorated by Andy and Jon. A private view of an exhibition of GO4 art combined with a gig in London’s ICA this June are just some of the other possibilities.

We’re also starting a ‘Pledgers Only Updates’ page where we’ll share videos, gigs, conversations, demos, rough mixes, previously unreleased songs from the archives, and also words and photos.

A share of any profits from pledges will go to Amnesty International http://www.amnesty.org.uk/ who campaign for internationally recognised human rights for all, and Plan International http://plan-international.org/ who promote child rights to end child poverty.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

The teenage female reptile brain said NOT CRAP. Assaultive disco-funk with THAT guitar sound? English marxist art guys? We are approaching the very definition of NOT CRAP, quaint 70s ayatollah-esque feminism and all.

The forty-two-year-old, having disliked nearly everything they've done since 1983, including the show I saw last spring and especially the soon-to-be-released rerecordings, says CRAP.

NOT CRAP. Teenage Female Reptile Brain 1, Rational Adult 0. Shocker.

Hey Fucktard from Animal Collective who wanted his fans to pay for his vacation to Africa....

THIS is how you do it right.

Of course, it helps a whole lot if you get yourself in to an awesome band like the 四人帮 prior to soliciting your fans for donations. It also helps to have the goodies for said donations be good (see above list) as well as having a plan for a charity to benefit from a portion of the donations clearly identified and set in place.

Best,
xNx

That being said, I am bummed that Dave and Hugo have no involvement in the new album.

Still, not crap on the band as a whole. Their music has played a big part in my life's soundtrack and I am very grateful to them for that.

I have a 'Hard' time believing it is not pointless w/o Hugo.

I would rather go to the 'Mall.'

Probably I would rather be 'Shrinkwrapped,' for that matter.

FYP.

Also, god, this is not very good is it? They have fallen far. Why did they have to make "Glass" sound like David Bowie was covering it badly?

I think they imploded after the second album. Wire and The Fall were far more consistent. Not Crap though, but probably Crap now. (Didn't they reunite?)

They have a couple of times. I saw the original lineup play a reunion show, and it was pretty fucking amazing all things considered.

History has repeated itself.
This band should never continue without the proper rhythm section.

Yuck.

Why "Glass"? It's by far the worst song on Entertainment!, i.m.o., and not really worth reworking, esp. this way. Ecch.

alex maiolo wrote:History has repeated itself.

Agreed. And I even liked two songs from Shrinkwrapped.

No surprise that they can now offer a 3-song download for free, and have just added some new US tour stops in the Midwest, in mid-February yet.

I don't have a good explanation for why I should find this licensing deal so horribly infuriating -- after all, I still like Sonic Youth (Starbucks!) and LCD Soundsystem (Nike AND Xbox!) -- but it just makes me ill, and let's don't even try to analyze the reasons why (except maybe to note A. Zivkovich's comment that "it's the sickening aesthetic flop" that is upsetting). Fuck this shit.

Saw the commercial for the X-Box thing and cried out loud.

My daughter jumped and said 'What? What's wrong daddy.'

I just pointed at the screen with eyes wide and mouth ajar.

'WHAT!!'

'I don't know, sweetheart, sorry.'

Sell out. Maintain the interest.
