I have never watched this show. Recently, I was out drinking with my friend who is one of these sensitive drunks. I think I was denouncing television when Mad Men cropped up. She said I really have to watch it because it's amazing and centred around feminism, the end of 50's culture and all that shit.

I already know that. I told her that I had read enough and watched enough on that subject already that selling a glossy TV series based on intellectual themes wasn't going to work.

She got really upset. Especially when I talked about Sex and the City.

I mean, it's TV. Tell me there are tons of hot men and awesome clothes, interior design and I'm down but I still have my imagination so I'm still not going to watch it anytime soon.

Know what I mean right?

The Lady of the House enjoys this program. I have tried to, but I cannot. Very two-dimensional, overly stylized, soapy. Writing is totally off-the-rails in Season 3 (the absurd tractor episode; the teacher; the we're-gonna-start-our-own-agency! Xmas jubilation). Alternates solid acting (Moss) w/dreadful acting (Jones' one-note petulance).

It's kind of like an art director, a stylist, and daytime soap writer had a three-way and the result was this show. Kind of surface-y.

I must also add that I am slightly perplexed by all of you gentlemen blowing your wads over Christina Hendricks. Very pretty face, but an almost comically exaggerated sex appeal and build. Like a Botero-cum-blow-up-doll.

Personally, I think Ms. Jones is a much more drool-worthy proposition. Her ice queen-isms and hide-and-seek Midwestern accent (character is supposed to be from goddamn Philly, no?) are totally happening. And yes, I am aware that she is a former lingerie model (hence, her acting skills, I suppose).

Somewhat crappy w/bigtime waffles. Still better than a lot of what's out there on tv. Pyrrhic victory, though.

Yes, like an R. Crumb drawing.

I cannot get into this show. There's barely a storyline.

I really hope Don and Betty go through with the divorce. So sick of watching her mope around the house and sneer at her kids. The woman is permafrozen. Fingers crossed the writers take mercy on her and figure out a way to attach her to a group of Fluxus artists or ex-Black Mountain poets. Uncle.

You know, this would actually be a great turn.
As the early 60's gave way to the mid and late 60's, some people freaked out and/or dropped out. Could have happened to a Betty Draper type and it would be funny considering how Don had an identity shift or two.

Definitely Christina has a pretty face and sexy body. A perfect type of model whom I want. Aside from being gorgeous, she is also good in acting, like in the role at Mad Men playing her role as Joan. She is very talented women.

Centuries from now, there will be odes to Christina Hendricks. A woman so beautiful even the bots came to love her.

Never mind that those bots are foreign-born. And writing from jail.

Yes, she, objectively speaking, has a very pretty face. But something about her whole bustin'-out-all-over-the-place m.o. is just too much for me.

I do realize that this verges dangerously close to engaging in celebrity-crush-thread territory, but I tend to like my sexuality a bit more subtle. Canadian actress Molly Parker, for example. (Of course, now some smartass will inevitably post a comment accompanying pics from that lousy Wayne Wang movie in which she played a stripper.)

Last week's episode was great. I think this whole season is pretty great so far actually.

Yes, last week's episode was pretty intense. I liked the final scene when everyone was sitting at the table, freaked out.

As much as I've enjoyed Roger as a character, I'm really interested to see where post-LSD Roger ends up going.

I gave up after season three, but I really liked Roger. You telling me he dropped acid? I may have to revisit.

I actually think seasons 4 & 5 have been the best.

I think I preferred the 90's. Back then everyone watched the show when it aired and then talked about it the next day.

Amazing episode last night, I just wish I could talk about it with someone.

I'm not the show's biggest fan but, it was a pretty interesting turn.

As an aside, it's cool how into alt comedy Jon Hamm is off the show. I heard him on a bunch of comedy podcasts long before I got around to seeing the show. His own comedic sensibilities are really nothing like Draper's.
