This overhead photo from The Ice Machine perfectly captures my minds eye photo of what Chicago punks used to look like whenever I'd go to the Cabaret Metro or Wax Trax or Medusas or Limelight or fake my way into Neo or Exit in the late '80's/early '90's.

Not bad. Good observation about BC's music being older than the years of the band.

A problem that comes with knowing stuff while you have that beloved guitar in your hands is the two things offered together is a great way to confuse people.

Box set coming later this year.

Very Long Fuse
Ice Machine
Smoker's Paradise

And I think "Driving the Dynamite Truck" will be included. I don't think the Pope single (w/ "Home of the Brave) will be included.

Any word on whether or not this will include any unreleased material?

I got the impression that nothing but those proper records plus one comp track... Was told the Pope single will be left off for "not fitting" with the other stuff, I think... So I'm guessing no outtakes/live, etc.

Of the later version of the band I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure they released everything they recorded. And I toured doing sound for them for one of their few tours, and I don't think any live sets were recorded unless there is a board tape somewhere.

Man that was a goofy poem that guy wrote.

Thanks for the info, kind folks. I've always wondered if the "Driving the Dynamite Truck" lineup recorded more songs beyond than just the one. Also, I remember reading some interview in which Bjorklund (does he use the umlaut?) stated that Smokers' Paradise was originally slated to be an LP, but Homestead did not have the cash for it; so I wondered if there were any demos of the rest or something? Finally, it'd be a real hoot to hear the original lineup of the band, w/John Lundin from Naked Raygun. Ok, enough geek talk from me. Thanks again.

Who is re-releasing these? That's kind of amazing.

I'd like to see the Strike Under record repressed. Anyone with an original one for sale PM me.

I'm gonna have to go through my boxes of old cassette tapes, because I think I was unable to attend one of their shows and I had a friend tape it for me, via some kinda pocket recorder device...
I guess that won't really count as a "recording of a live set", though, will it?

Could've sworn I asked "Hey Todd, when will Breaking Circus be reissued?" during a Shellac Q&A and he answered "when they've all sold out," but hey! Maybe he was just being dry(er). And at least they're being reissued now.

"Driving The Dynamite Truck" is a hell of a song. Just an absolute monster. I'm fond of Smoker's Paradise, too. Don't care too much for the others, but it's enough for a NC.

There were multiple still-shrinkwraped copies of "Smokers' Paradise" available at Laurie's when I was in town for the BBQ.

Well there you go! So he wasn't joking.

I'll be back up in Chicago in about three weeks, so I'll probably just pass on the boxset and pick up Smoker's Paradise.

It was apparently supposed to be a full LP with songwriting credits split between every member, but the lack of funds meant only Steve had all of his songs recorded (makes sense, I mean, it's his band). But I've always wanted to know what Todd's other songs sounded like. Flour's "Eat Lead" is no slouch either.

With a riff later used on his second or third solo album I recall. Flour's work is terribly underrated as has been discussed on here many years ago.
