Hex is probably their best work.

It's me who was in them, but left very early on, before any recordings.

I hope EA forum member rashiedgarrison won't mind me bringing it to wider attention that he played in an early incarnation of the group and was a school friend of Graham Sutton who he weaned off The Police by introducing him to The Stooges and Killdozer.

BadComrade, you've mentioned in passing you love of late-period Talk Talk, speaking as a man whose enthusiasm stretches to be cognizant of the track 'Stump' I can say without hesitation that you’ll get something out of Hex or the Scum EP.

Codename: Dustsucker (2004) also bears the magical touch of Lee Harris and although it's slightly overcooked, I’m still very fond of it.

The material prior to Hex is okay ('ManMan' EP is good) but very much of its time, still quite impressive considering they were about six years old.

All too happy to help sourcing any of it, just give me shout.

Edit: He beat me to it!

Not Crap! I haven't listened to hex in a while. I'll have to dust it off soon.

Too bad, because people could have heard your guitar "weep", "bite", "punch" and "growl."

I know. 'Hex' would have sounded so much better with some weeping.

(Well, that only took a few months) I listened to it again last night and I have it on right now. I really enjoy this album.

Haven't heard them yet, but I've heard good things about them.

Will see if I can get a copy of Hex somehow and report back.

In my opinion, no. But that's not a fair comparison. I don't think they sound anything like Talk Talk.

Bark Psychosis is on their own trip and they're a great band, but very few, if any, records can top Laughing Stock.

Also, for what it's worth, Lee Harris (drummer from Talk Talk) played on their album///Codename: Dustsucker which is one of my favorite records. I think it's their best one.

Uh...I just heard their cover of "Three Girl Rhumba."

My first impression: it blows.

CJH posted a link to "Absent Friend" on my Facebook wall, though, and I like that. The singer's voice reminds me of that of Alister Parker of Bailterspace.

Fuck, it really is just now hitting me how great Hex truly is. I've always, always loved the album but now I'm feeling like I understand it on a personal level.

About three days ago I received my copy of Hex in the mail and it hasn't left my turntable since.

It's not easy to straddle the lines they do with the kinds of music they play, but they pull it off extremely well.

Great band.
