Initially, I remembered Rorschach as a band that combined the riffage and speed of the blandest thrash metal you could imagine with the sloppiness of punk. So I visited their myspace page to see whether my recollection held true.

Yep, it did.

Boring, pointless crap.

OK. Everything's clear to me now, thanks.

Anyway, Rorschach is the best metal band from the greater New York metropolitan area in the history of ever. NOT CRAP.

Please. The Northwest gave you The Melvins, Earth, and Sunn O))). Those bands revolutionized metal while Rorschach were still practicing the chord progressions on Sodom records.

Revolutionary cure for insomonia. I've had DMV visits more interesting than that band.

You know what? I agree. I shouldn't have included them.

Listening to Remain Sedate again right now. One of the few worthwile hardcore records post-1983.

I love these guys. Oddly enough, this is what I imagine Clutch should've turned into after their debut.

ha. there was a weird intensity that clutch had that was totally lost after "transcontinental...". while i like the second record (a lot), there was a lot of promise that was unfulfilled.
Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Has anyone heard the 2xLP remix / reissue? I don't own these on vinyl and was considering getting it, but I really enjoy how the first record sounded and am on the fence on ordering a REDUX version.

Just when we thought hardcore was dead, Rorschach was a breath of fresh air indeed! I was lucky to have seen them live under some very strange circumstances tho. Maggio, who was battling cancer at the time, was very cool to me, always appreciated the support and never ripped me off though mail order. It's nice to see them finally getting some acclaim nowadays.

Bump. I've been listening to them again recently. I don't often listen to them, but when I do I enjoy it. Something about the execution of it really appeals to me - especially on Protestant, it's like they're continually trying to play at the absolute peak of their abilities all the time.

While I've always preferred Remain Sedate to Protestant - mainly because I like Maggio's earlier, lower-pitched vocal style much more than the Protestant-era shrieking - both are good records, and I can at least respect Protestant for being a clear forerunner to the more technically accomplished strains of hardcore that would follow. Personally, though, Remain Sedate really does a lot more for me. Simpler but more memorable riffs, heavier, meaner, better singing. (And yeah, I know Maggio changed his singing at least partially because of his health problems, but still.)

Anyway, Rorschach, NC.

Rorschach are my favorite of the early-'90s proto-metalcore bands. So bleak and ugly, yet there's a seething social conscience under it all.

Rorschach were hardcore's last gasp for me. Very cool guys, got locked out of venue, couldn't play inside my garage so wound up setting up in middle of strip mall and playing. Great show!
